She laughed. “Maybe.”

Smiling, I allowed her to help me gather my things and we exited the room and took the stairs like we usually did. When we arrived at the office, Jager remained in the hall while I entered to finalize things for the night. When I returned, Karen was glaring at Jager who was on her phone with Swede and Montana.

“Well,” she said, wrapping her arm around my waist as we exited the center. “I was given the go ahead to adopt Cage. They have to do a home study and I’ll have to take a few courses about the process.”

“Congratulations.” I kissed her. “This is very good news.”

Jager grinned happily.

With her help, we placed her cycle in the back of my truck. I then sat in the passenger side as she maneuvered my truck through the streets. The Crazy mountains rose in front of us like wonderful spectres and I exhaled, feeling at home.

We arrived at a farm, and I arched my brow.

“What’s this place?” I asked.

“You’ll see.” She climbed from the truck. “Come on.”

I exited, closed the door and we walked, hand in hand around the large main house to the back.

“Roscoe!” Jager asked. “Roscoe, you here?”

Yeah, girl. Come on back!” The male voice replied.

“Jager!” A woman hung half her body out an upstairs window.

She stopped and waved at her. “Hey beautiful! How are you?”

“Well, ask me again after this baby comes out.” The woman replied. “Come in when you get a moment.”

“I will.”

“Who’s the stud?” The woman asked.

“Woman!” Roscoe hollered up at her.

The woman giggled.

“This is my boyfriend.” Jager replied. “You can meet him in a sec.”

I smiled and allowed Jager to lead me after Roscoe to the back of the house. There, we found a litter of puppies, playing around in a large pen. Jager released my hand and hurried over, hunched down to play with the little dogs.

“Hi!” She greeted them. “Hi lovelies.”

When I was beside her, she looked at me. “Is this our date?”

“A part of it.” She replied. “These German Sheppard puppies—I want to get a couple of them. We have the land and Cage would love to have them.”

“Do you think you can handle two puppies?” I asked her.

“Well, it wouldn’t be just me.” She scooped one up into her arms and cuddled him. “I have you and Cage…”

“Are you saying you want me around, Jager?”

“I thought I already made that clear.” She kissed the puppy’s head.

I offered a one shoulder shrug.

Jager sighed and placed the puppy back in with the others. They milled around the puppy before they all toddled off.
