They gasped.

“Calm down.” I held up my hands. “Calm down.”

“Calm down?” A girl spoke up from the back. “You just told us someone shot you!”

“Yes, but I’m okay.” I told them. “It was in the shoulder, and I had some very good doctors. I’m still standing.”

“And the person who shot you?” Another kid called. “I hope you kicked his butt.”

I smiled. “I didn’t have to.” I told him proudly.

“So, what happened?” The same kid asked. “You didn’t just let that punk get away with it.”

“No. See, I’m a very lucky man.” I looked up as I saw Jager’s face outside the glass. “I have a girl who’s a little more bad-ass than I am.”

The girls giggled.

I motioned for Jager to enter then.

The new girl gasped before I could introduce them and went into complete fangirl mode.

“Jager.” She whispered.

“You know who she is?” I asked.

“Of course!” The girl replied excitedly. “You missed your last fight.”

Jager laughed and reached across to shake the girl’s hand. “I had a good reason—I promise.”

I took the chance to introduce her to my kids, then explained who she was. Realization hit the male students almost immediately and I could see them smiling.

Almost immediately, it was as if I didn’t exist. They were fascinated by Jager—the fact she was ex military turned fighter was a big deal to them. The girls were in awe and the boys were over the moon to be talking a beautiful woman.

By the time I managed to clear the room, I was exhausted for Jager. I was holding her when Karen into the room to give me the files on the two new kids I had. She stopped and stared from me to Jager as if she’d walked in and caught us cheating on her.

“Is she the reason why you rejected me?” Karen asked, dropping the papers to a near-by seat.

“No.” I replied. “I decline your offer because I wasn’t interested in you.”

“But her you’re into?” Karen asked. “My gawd, are you even sure she’s female?”

I felt it the moment the devil entered Jager’s body, and I tightened the arm I had around her slender waist to hold her to me.

“You may not like her.” I told Karen. “But you will respect her. I’ve told you quite a few times I’m not interested in you beyond a working relationship and that seem to be something you’re having a hard time understanding. Don’t make me go over your head.”

She glared at Jager, who was smiling and turned on her heels.

Alone with Jager, I exhaled and rubbed my eyes.

“That woman.” I grumbled.

“Don’t let her get to you.” Jager told me. “I thought I’d come get you and you and I could go on an impromptu date.”

“Oh? Where’s Cage?”

“He is spending time with Kujo.” She replied.

“Which is code for he’s spending time with Six.”
