Rosie screamed. “Stop talking!”
Gia was laughing so hard she was crying. “This is great. Can I move in?”
I shot her a look. “No. I saw you touch Drake’s chest earlier.”
“Did you see when I touched his ass?” She burst into another fit of laughter at the look on my face. “I’m kidding!”
Drake cleared his throat. “I think we should all go back to humming. Much safer that way.”
Price hovered over the test. “Pick a number between one and fifty, baby.”
I gave into the chaos and finished wiping. “Twenty-seven.”
“Great! That’s the number I chose. That means you’ll marry me.” He shot his best friends a thumbs down. “It was a completely fair way to decide. I promise.”
Rosie gasped. “You’re getting married?”
“Yes.”
“No.”
I glared at the guys and they glared back at me. I flushed the toilet and yanked my pants up. “I’m not acknowledging your marriage offer at this time. Not until you figure out what a flower is and pair it up with a ring and a knee.”
Drake grunted. “You can marry me, Cupcake. I’ll give you my Grandma’s recipes.”
“We all know Grandma Taylor was a loon, Drake! She once fed us cupcakes with rice in them.” Cole shuddered. “You can marry me. Why wouldn’t you?”
“Grandma was a creative, asshole. She was just testing things out.” Drake rolled his eyes and crossed his arms over his chest. “I resent the hell out of you for telling that story.”
“Technically, I asked first both times. Today and the night I called Drake at Sonnie’s house.” Price stared harder at the tester. “How long does this thing take?”
“I thought you never remember your night talks.” I looked from Price to Cole and watched as Cole’s face turned red and Price looked like he’d messed up.
“I don’t… Drake must’ve told me about it.” Price ignored Cole’s glare like a champion.
“You called my mom sexy, you dick! Then you swore up and down you didn’t recall ever saying it!” Cole wrapped his arm around Price’s neck and held Price’s head against his armpit. “I told you back then if I ever found out you were lying to me about that, I was going to give you the old sniffer. Did I put on deodorant today, asshole?”
Drake looked at me over the wrestling mass of his two best friends. “Clearly, I’m the best option.”
Rosie and Gia cheered on the fight and then everyone scattered when Monster howled and extended his claws. The cat stood in the middle of the bathroom and growled before sitting back down and looking up at the counter.
“That’s spooky. He just scolded you guys and is telling you to check the test now, isn’t he? That’s not normal.” I bent down and stared at the cat. “You’re an alien, aren’t you? I bet you’re so over our shit.”
Monster yawned as if he agreed with me and flicked his tail. I reached down and scratched behind his ears, just for him to shiftback and push my hand away. At least he didn’t use claws. I’d take it.
I stood back up and then noticed the silence. Looking around, I saw everyone was staring intently at Price. He was holding the test in his hand and his eyes were suspiciously moist. My heart leapt into my throat as I watched him turn the test around so the others could see it. Pregnant. There it was, stated in print across the screen of the test. I was pregnant.
The room erupted as the people closest to me in the whole world instantly celebrated the news. I watched them each laughing and cheering, so happy to be standing in a bathroom after watching me pee, because we’d created another life. I looked down at my stomach and a smile stretched my mouth. It was slow and a little unsure at first, but it didn’t take long for that smile to be so big it hurt my cheeks. I was pregnant.
Each of my guys wrapped me in their arms and held me while I let my excitement build to what they were feeling. As anxious as I was, it took me a little longer. Being in that bathroom with them all, though, it all clicked into place for me.
I met Rosie’s eyes and grinned at her. We’d gone our whole lives without a family. We’d had each other but I knew we’d each wanted more. We’d wanted what everyone else seemed to have. Laughter, love, loudness. We’d wanted the fullness, the good chaos, and the crowded bathroom full of people. We finally had it. I could see in her eyes that she felt it, too. We had our family and it was just getting bigger.
I stroked my hand over my flat stomach and pressed my face into Price’s shoulder. “We’re going to have a baby.”
Cole snorted. “Ababy? Try ten. Or more. I don’t care as long as it’s a lot.”
Drake tugged Rosie into our little group hug. “And we’ve already got the perfect babysitter.”
