Gia cleared her throat. “I’ll babysit, too. And I won’t touch anyone’s chests or butts.”
I reached out and grabbed her hand to pull her in. “Get in, loser.”
“We’re going shopping!” The guys all recited the line fromMean Girlsperfectly in unison. They almost seemed shocked they’d spoken at all.
The rest of us? We howled with laughter. I think even Monster joined in a little.
CHAPTER 43
Price
I wrapped my arm around Sonnie and raised an eyebrow at the journalist who’d just asked us if we were really serious about her. As a whole, the guys and I had always kept things respectful but distant with the reporters and paparazzi who caught us on the street. That was going to come to an end if they kept asking questions like that about Sonnie.
Drake and Cole were on her other side, but I spoke first. Maybe I was still aiming for that marriage spot. “Look, guys. We’ve been begging Sunflower to marry us for weeks now. That’s how serious we are. We’re in love with the woman and we’re always going to be.”
Sonnie gasped but tried to keep her thoughts to herself. She smiled sweetly, but I could see the fire in her eyes. Feeling like poking the bear, I looked over at Drake and Cole and winked.
“Great. Now you guys made me put my foot in my mouth. Do you know what it’s like having a pregnant woman pissed at you?” I smirked down at her and felt my dick jump when she licked her lips and took a deep breath. “Oh, yeah. We’re pregnant.”
We’d gone to eat at a restaurant downtown, knowing there would end up being a crowd of people with cameras by the time we left. We’d planned on announcing the pregnancy as a way of showing the world just how serious we were. I knew Sonnie thought we were going to do it in a much more organized way, though. The look on her face promised revenge. However, I wanted to be open and honest about my love for Sonnie. I wanted the world to know how much she meant to us. To me.
Questions were yelled at us but when Sonnie opened her mouth, the crowd went silent. “And that’s why I’m not marrying them, yet. They justtoldme to marry them. And he just said, for the first time, they’re in love with me, to a bunch of random people on the street! No offense. These three need a lessonon communication, I swear. A proposal is a question, not a statement. Tell the woman you love that you love her before you tell a crowd of strangers.
“We don’t even need to talk about how there’s a baby coming and we’re just now having the love talk.” Sonnie rambled on, clearly lost, but so fucking cute I wasn’t going to stop her. “We did this all out of order. I guess it doesn’t matter, but how am I supposed to tell my little sister to wait for sex when I’m knocked up? I clearly shouldnotbe in charge of giving my sister the talk. Oh, god. She’s going to murder me. Oh, shit. I mean, shoot. Um… Can you guys just ignore all of this? Okay, bye!”
I laughed as Sonnie stepped behind us and tugged on our sleeves until we stepped closer together and formed a wall that she could hide behind. “How the hell could we not love her?”
Drake tried to hide his laugh but failed. Everyone saw Sonnie’s hand as she reached over and swatted his ass. Drake’s cheeks went rosy as he grinned. “The way our relationship was introduced wasn’t great, but what we have with Sonnie is real and it’s good. She makes us happy.”
“Because I want to be the favorite, I’ll add that she’s a better baker than all of us. She’s not afraid to let us know, either.” Cole snorted. “She already helped us improve the recipe for our chocolate cupcake.”
A woman in the crowd stepped forward. “I knew it was different! Bless that woman. That cupcake was orgasmic.”
Sonnie stuck her hand out from behind us and gave the woman a thumbs up. “Thank you!”
I rolled my eyes. “The recipe was fine before… She is a better baker than all of us, though. That’s why we’re going to be adding a special course to our classes this year. Just because something is good doesn’t mean it can’t be better. Sonnie showed us that about our life and our baking. She doesn’t know it, yet, but she’s going to be helping us teach a class on improving the usual.”
Drake knew Sonnie would be freaking out so he stepped forward to wrap everything up. “Alright. Now everyone knows we’re serious about Sonnie. We love her and are dying to marry her. She’s a better baker than all of us and will be helping teach a class this year. And we’re going to be dads in a few months. Honestly, I’ve never been happier. We’d appreciate it if you guys could all understand what Sonnie means to us from now on. When you speak about her, remember that if you hurt her, I’ll be forced to break your face.”
Sonnie gasped even louder and shoved her head out. “He’s joking! Tell the nice people you’re joking, Drake.”
“I’m not joking. This is the woman I love. She’s growing our baby inside her and if anyone stresses her out or hurts her feelings, I’m going to—”
Sonnie slapped her hand over his mouth and smiled. “And that’s our cue to leave. Was this bad? This was bad, right? Normally people are more put together than this, aren’t they? I’m sorry. It’s completely me. I’m a nervous rambler and the guys love to tease me. I bring out the punk in them, I think. Sorry about the chaos. Sorry. Sorry.”
I put my hand over Sonnie’s mouth to stop her from apologizing to each and every journalist. “Baby, you don’t need to apologize to the nice people. I’m pretty sure you just made their night. You’re fucking adorable.”
Cole looked at me. “Do I need to cover your mouth now? Keep it in your pants.”
Drake scooped Sonnie into his arms and nodded to the crowd. Sonnie waved goodbye like it was a crowd of old friends. Cole and I just shook our heads and followed them down the street to our car. The crowd seemed to be in a shocked silence as we left, which was probably a sign that we’d made asses of ourselves, but I didn’t care.
Once we were in the car, I yanked off my tie and shrugged out of my jacket. Rolling up my shirt sleeves, I looked over and saw Sonnie watching with a heated expression on her pretty face. I flexed my arms as I finished with the sleeves and bit back a moan at the desire she didn’t hide from us. “Come here, baby.”
She crawled across the seat and settled on my lap. “Hi.”
I grabbed her hips and pressed my mouth to her neck. Her sweet taste never failed to make me hard as rock and that time was no different. I growled against the pulse fluttering at the base of her throat. “I love you, Sonnie.”
She moaned my name and ran her hands through my hair, gripping it tight to tilt my head back. Looking me in the eyes, she smiled. The sweetness in her expression didn’t match the rough grip she had on my hair, but that was Sonnie. She was everything all at once. “I love you, too. I can’t believe you said it in front of a crowd of people like that. Before you even said it to me!”
