“Baby, I missed you more than I can explain. I wanted to come after you last night. These two wouldn’t let me, though. So, clearly you should marry me because I’m more of a go-getter.” Cole grunted when Drake punched him. “Careful.”
I looked up at him and frowned. “Are you hurt?”
He looked confused. “No. Why?”
“You told Drake to be careful. Normally you just punch him back.” I looked at the three of them and saw they all seemed tight-lipped out of nowhere. Anxiety got the best of me and I turned to face Cole fully. I gently ran my hands over him, trying to assess him for injuries. “What happened? Tell me. You’re hurt, aren’t you?”
He caught my hands and groaned. “Jesus, Sonnie. I’d rather not get arrested for sporting a boner in a public park.”
I glanced down at his pants and raised my eyebrows when I saw his pocket had something bulky in it. “Unless you moved the location of your penis, you’ve got something awkwardly large in your pocket.”
“I told him to be careful because of you.” Cole cupped my face in his hand and tipped his head down to softly kiss me. Hepressed a box into my hand and pulled back. “Gia thinks you might need this.”
I looked down at the box in my hand and tilted my head at it. Looking up at Cole and then Drake and Price, I felt my world shift. “A pregnancy test.”
Drake kissed the top of my head. “Any closer to marrying us now?”
Price elbowed him. “Pace yourself, asshole.”
I looked down at the box again and slowly licked my lips. “Gia thinks I’m pregnant and told you guys first? That’s weird.”
Price took the box from me and held my hand. “She’s a thorough best friend. You’re pretty. She told us to tell you that. I think you already know we think you’re fucking beautiful, though.”
“If I’m pregnant…” A wave of emotion hit me. I had to stop and take a few breaths before I could speak again. “If I am pregnant, what would you guys think?”
They all stepped back so I could see them each as they pulled out more pregnancy tests from their pockets. They had every brand, it looked like. Their eyes were bright as they grinned at me.
Drake pulled out a small ribbon that congratulated him on being a new dad. “Maybe I’m jumping the gun, but I couldn’t not get it. If you’re pregnant, I’m wearing this every day.”
CHAPTER 42
Sonnie
In a million years, I never would have thought I’d take my first pregnancy test in front of a crowd. There I was, though, sitting on the toilet in one of Price’s downstairs bathrooms, with five people and a cat staring at me while I tried to pee. It wasn’t supposed to be a group activity but through strong will and stubbornness, they’d all barged their way in.
“Pee already, Sonnie! I need to know!” Rosie groaned dramatically and looked up at the ceiling. “I’m dying here.”
I shot her a dirty look. “It’d probably be a lot easier without the crowd!”
Gia put her arm around Rosie. “Don’t mind her. It’s the pregnancy hormones. She’s going to be a real pain for a few months.”
Monster even walked over and swatted my leg, like he, too, was bored of waiting on my shy bladder. Of course, then he sat directly in front of me and stared straight into my eyes like the creep he was.
Cole knelt right in front of me and tried to rub my stomach, but I swatted his hand away. He shot a meaningful look between me and Monster. “I see where he gets it.”
“I’m never going to be able to pee with all of you in here!”
Drake stepped forward. “Alright, everyone. This is what we’re going to do. I’m going to turn the sink on and we’re all just going to hum a little song to get Sonnie’s oddly shy bladder over this. Okay? Okay.”
I glared up at him. “My bladder is normal shy, not oddly shy.”
The sink went on and then, to my auditory horror, each of them started to loudly hum a different song. It felt like I was standing in the middle of a hive of arguing bees. Somehow, it worked, though. I peed almost immediately and then put the little lid on the stick and put it on the counter next to me.
“I did it!”
Rosie rolled her eyes. “Most of my friends have already done it, Sonnie. Calm down.”
I gasped, mid-wipe. “No! Are you kidding me? Are theyallsexually active? Areyou?Oh, my god. Oh. My. God. I’m not ready for this. I didn’t have the talk with you. Do you know about sex and condoms? What about chlamydia? Oh, my god. I’ve failed you.”
