For a moment, he didn’t move or say a word. Then I felt him reach behind my head and start to untie the fabric covering my eyes.
“I would keep your eyes closed. It is very bright out here.”
I closed my eyes and felt the blindfold being removed totally. Even through my closed eyes, I could see the daylight shining down on me. My heart was beating fast, but my breathing was at least under control now. Geoff’s admission had slightly eased my nerves, along with the fact that he was willing to help as much as he could.
I felt myself gently being lifted into Geoff’s arms; I lay in them as though I was fast asleep. I wasn’t sure how he was covering up the fact that both my wrists and ankles were tied, but that wasn’t my concern. I could feel us going up a set of steps, which I assumed to be those of the private jet that Bianca had said she had waiting for us. I knew when we were inside because the chill of the air conditioning blew over my skin, causing me to shudder.
“I’ll get you a blanket in a second. I wasn’t expecting you to arrive in quite so little clothing.”
It was only then I remembered I had only been wearing the swimming costume when Bianca arrived. I did have a coverup over me, but it still left little to the imagination. I just hoped that Kye hadn’t seen me being carried into the plane by Geoff. Knowing his dominant side, it would probably come hand-in-hand with a possessive nature, and I really did not want Geoff to get hurt. Not when he had been so understanding and caring towards me. He placed me down into a leather seat, and I continued to pretend to be asleep until he came back and spoke.
“You can open your eyes now. We are safe. Here is a blanket to keep you warm for the moment.”
I opened my eyes and could finally see Geoff in front of me. He had taken a seat in the chair opposite me. I would have said he was in his late thirties, maybe early forties at the most. Devilishly handsome with the typical chiselled jaw. He was any woman’s dream man – except for me, of course. I already had my dream man, and I was hoping he was on his way here now. I smiled up at Geoff, who looked both concerned and regretful.
“Thank you. I know this is hard for you. I promise if we both get out of this, I will tell the police you had nothing to do with my kidnapping. That you were just following Bianca’s orders and assumed that I was privy to that.”
“I hope we do get out of this. If my children hadn’t been threatened, I would have just closed the plane door and messaged the control tower. But I can’t risk them being hurt.”
“I understand, and I don’t want you to put yourself or your family in danger. I’m sure the police will be here soon.”
I looked through the window, and down below us, I could see Bianca arguing with one of the security guards. It gave me hope that there was still a chance that I could get out of here without it being on a plane.
It was then that we heard them. In the distance, the sound of the sirens. I had never felt so relieved in all my life. The police were on their way, which meant that Mateus or Kye had contacted them. I could see Bianca starting to look worried, looking around to see if the police were heading this way. She must have decided she was going to head back towards the plane, but as she turned, one of the security guards went to grab her.
It was then that I realised how serious the situation was. Bianca went into her bag and pulled out what looked like a gun. I felt my heart stop beating for a second as she wielded the gun around at all of the security team. They immediately backed off as she slowly walked backwards towards the plane.
“What the fuck does she think she is doing?” I could hear the fear in Geoff’s voice as he got up from his seat in front of me and headed towards the front of the plane.
With my hands and feet still bound together, I couldn’t go anywhere. Any chance I had of escaping this mess was taken from me. I could feel myself start to panic again as I heard an argument between Bianca and Geoff just as the police came flying into the airport, pulling up just in front of Bianca. Every single police officer got out and pulled out their guns, pointing them at Bianca. She didn’t flinch, though; just calmly kept her gun pointing at the police and headed towards the steps and took cover. She just stood there laughing and said something to Geoff, who was standing at the top of the stairs to the plane.
Geoff walked back into the plane and towards me. “I’m sorry, Abigail. Miss Emerson wants me to bring you out of the plane.”
He untied my feet and helped me up from my seat.
“What the hell does she think she is going to do? Use me as a hostage to be able to get into the plane?”
I looked up into Geoff’s eyes and saw the look on his face. He didn’t need to say a word. That was exactly what she was planning on doing.
Geoff looked down at the floor as he spoke again. “I’m sorry.”
Inside, I was screaming that this was wrong. That I would never see Kye again. The panic was escalating inside me again as my breathing started to shallow and speed up. Geoff helped me to my feet and steadied me before leading me towards the front of the plane and the top of the stairs. We slowly went down the stairs and towards Bianca, who was currently in a stand-off with both the police and the security guards standing just behind the stairs.
“Bring her over to me.”
My heart was beating in my head with every step I took. Geoff passed me over to Bianca, who immediately pulled me into her side, and the gun was placed at my temple as she stepped out into the open. The nausea was starting to build as the enormity of the situation I was now in had sunk in. This was now a matter of life or death. My life or death.
My head finally kicked into gear, and I tried to pull away from Bianca, but got the gun hit across my face for the privilege.
“You stay where you are, Miss Perfect. Go and get the plane ready. We take off in five minutes.”
I saw Geoff hesitating next to me before he turned, giving me a sad smile, and headed towards the plane.
“Now, as you can see, I have a hostage here. I won’t hesitate to shoot her to get away from you. I am going to slowly head back to the plane, and then you are going to let me fly off into the sunset.” Bianca was pulling me towards the plane.
I could feel blood trickling down my face, and the nausea I was feeling before was starting to increase, along with the dizziness, both of which were probably due to the wound on my head. I was struggling to walk as I was being pulled along and up the steps.
“Bianca, you aren’t going to get away. All flights have been stopped. You won’t get clearance from air traffic control to take off. Don’t make things worse for yourself. Let Miss Goddard go and give yourself up.”
