"What?"
"Yeah."
"Apparently, your brother got impatient or maybe not. Either way, he transferred his rights, or rather guardianship over his rights, to my sister this morning.” I was flabbergasted.
"And her first order of business was to kick you out?"
He shrugged.
"Apparently."
"And you just let her?”
He nodded, and I was so confused.
"What's happening?" I asked. "How is it possible that you just let her?”
"Because I think I need a break," he said. "From all of the nonsense."
"Sure, I could have fought it. There's probably a way to have it backfire, but I think this is not the right move to make right now. Plus, I could really use a break. I mean... I looked around and you weren't there, and..."
My heart began to race in my chest.
"I don't know. I have no qualms about resting, just as you are."
I was a bit torn stricken as I listened to him, yet I was amused at the same time.
"My break was for a brief period. Just today... the weekend. I would have come back on Monday."
"Well, you don't have to go back," he said. "Plus, I suspect that another thing she'll be doing is shutting down your project."
I was even more horrified, alarmed, and annoyed. I found myself going closer to him then.
"What? And you're not... I mean... why are you so calm about this?"
He smiled.
"That is a billion-dollar company," he replied. "You can't develop the skills to run it overnight."
"So, you think she'll come crawling to you?"
"There are a lot of fires I put out on a daily basis that I don't really report about. That alone is going to overwhelm her in the next day or two. Then there is a huge lawsuit in progress that, again, she is not aware of. If she can handle all of these pressures and resolve them within the next day or two, then I'll gladly step down."
"So, you've already stepped down now?"
"I have, but I'm sure she won't make it official. After she sees what she's just fought for, she'll struggle a bit, and then perhaps she'll reach out to me."
"And if she doesn't?"
He shrugged again.
"I really don't want to think about any of that right now. Like I said, if this hadn’t happened, I don't think I would have willingly taken a vacation. And I need one. With you, preferably."
I finally listened to what he was saying.
"Are you inviting me to take one with you?"
"Why not?" he asked, and for the umpteenth time within the span of two days, I was stunned. I stared at him, and he stared back, glancing at the door to the side to see if Diana was somehow overhearing this.
