“If you walk out with him, then I won’t say another thing. Nothing that Tim wants to know,” he murmured in a low voice. “Maybe even some other secrets that you’re curious about.”

“What kind of secrets?”

He didn’t respond, and a moment later, the door swung open. I glanced over my shoulder, seeing Warner rush inside. He studied me before his eyes turned hard when he looked at Zan.

“I’m making breakfast,” Warner said, focusing back on me. “Come eat.”

I could feel Zan’s stare on my back as I turned and faced Warner. “Thanks, but I need to question him longer.”

“Fuck him,” Warner drawled. “You can come back later. You need to eat.”

“She can eat down here,” Zan said from behind me, his voice full of smugness. “Can’t you, Kali?”

“You don’t speak for her,” Warner growled. He moved, and I stepped in front of him, putting my palms on his chest.

“He won’t talk to me about anything if I leave,” I gritted out. “I’m fine down here.”

“He’s messing with you,” Warner burst out, his glare full of loathing as he looked past me. “Just like he did when you were in his city. He’s the one in chains. You don’t have to fucking listen to him.”

Zan tsked, only making the entire situation worse. “She does if Tim wants any more information.”

“I should just kill you now,” Warner hissed. “Then we can just go get one of your brothers. Maybe they’ll talk.”

“I didn’t peg you for someone with a death wish.” The taunting tone Zan had a second ago was completely gone, and in its place was a violent threat. “You go after my brothers, and I’ll kill you myself.”

Warner opened his mouth, but I spoke up first. “Warner. Walk away. Let me get this done.”

He stared at me for a long moment before he spun around and stormed up the stairs, slamming the door at the top. I rubbed my hands down my face as I turned to look at Zan.

“Are you going to talk now?” I asked irritably. I didn’t like when Warner was upset, but at the same time, he knew why I was doing this. It was understandable that he hated Zan after everything, but he wasn’t looking at the larger picture. It was for us. For the Clovers. At least that’s what I kept telling myself.

Zan grinned. “Let’s talk.”

Chapter33

Zan

“How long can you really stay silent?”

The guy stabbed me again, and I swallowed my grunt, keeping my lethal glare on him as he pulled the stake back out. This motherfucker took pleasure in torturing me for hours every time Kali left. His name was Garrett, and he was high on my list of who was going to die when I got out of here.

Garrett stepped back, swiping his black hair off his forehead before glancing at the other man, who was standing watch near the door. They made sure no one else came in when I was bleeding, but at least I had a shower before Kali came, since they didn’t want her to know I was a different breed of vampire. My body was fucking aching, every nerve on fire from this round of trying to get me to talk.

And I was fucking weak. Much worse off than I’d been expecting. I’d only been here maybe three days, but with them practically draining me from staking me so much, my body was working overtime to heal, and I hadn’t drunk a drop of blood. My mind was hazy and my limbs heavy. I was so damn thirsty.

I tensed when Garrett stepped over my legs and crouched down, getting eye level with me. He smirked, his yellowing teeth flashing as he raised the stake and put the sharp tip under my chin. I gritted my teeth when the wood cut into my jaw, splitting my skin open as he forced my face up.

“Why do you only want to talk to the girl?” he asked, cocking his head to the side. “Wouldn’t it be better to just give in to me and stop all of this?”

The room stayed silent when I didn’t answer.

“Do you have a hard-on for her?” he questioned, his eyes gleaming with cruelty. “I don’t blame you. She’s a looker. Maybe when I’m done down here, I’ll go find her and see if she’ll get on her knees for me.”

Rage scorched my veins, and it took everything in me to stay still. Garrett grinned, pushing the stake harder into my jaw. Pain spasmed, and I clenched my teeth, letting loathing filter into my glare.

“Do you like her?” Garrett mocked, attempting to see if Kali was a way to get under my skin. She absolutely was. Not that I was going to show him that.

“He needs to get washed off soon. She wants to come down and talk to him. Tim is getting impatient since the asshole isn’t giving us what we want,” the guy at the door said, his lip curling in disgust at me. “Hurry up.”
