He nodded and continued listening.

"And they all lived happily ever after," he said then sighed, "That was nice. Does anyone have another story?"

"Don't you have work to go to?" One of the kids sitting on his thighs asked.

"Well…uh…" Adam tried thinking up an excuse.

"I bet he's skipping work," another said.

"Adam, are you one of those lazy adults who skip work?" Another asked.

"I'm not skipping work!" He protested in such a cute way, I almost laughed, "I own the place, you know? So, I can take breaks."

"Yeah right," the one on his thighs sighed.

"You all are mean," Adam whined and started fake-sobbing.

"There, there," the other one on his thighs pat his head, "Sorry, Adam. If you ever become unemployed, we'll be sure to give you a new job."

"Are you trying to help or are you being mean?" He sniffled, "That's it. I'll tell Edna not to give you guys the treats I ordered."

"Nooooo," they chorused playfully.

He crossed his arms, "That's what you get for messing with an adult."

"Give us the treats," one of them demanded.

"No!" He pouted like a kid.

"Get him!" One of them yelled and they all pushed him over as they tickled him.

He laughed and pleaded with them to stop.

I had never seen him like this. No cocky smiles, arrogant tone, intimidating aura…just him being genuinely happy.

My heart started feeling fuzzy as I watched their scuffle continue.

Maybe I had been a little too harsh on him earlier. It was easy to see he really was a kind person.

"Oh, a beautiful woman," one of the girls tickling him said, breaking my train of thought.

Adam noticed me and I smirked.

I swear his cheeks turned a light shade of red and he was flustered.

He looked away and sat down properly while clearing his throat.

His aura had changed to a more serious one. The kids were confused at his change in behavior as they exchanged glances between him and me.

"Do you know her?" The girl asked him.

"Ahem. She's a doctor as well, and she works at my hospital," he replied without looking at me.

Wait, was he sulking because I noticed him playing around with the kids?

I started to laugh and knelt close to him.

I poked his face, "Come on, Dr. Hunt, don't stop on my account. Introduce me to the kids."
