He was keeping his face away from me so I couldn't see his expression. Maybe he was still upset with the way I had acted.
"Adam, are you okay? Your cheeks are bright red," one of the kids asked.
"Bright red? Are you embarrassed, Dr. Hunt?" I teased, "I won't tell anyone."
"Maybe he's in love?" The girl teased.
"That's it. I'm going!" He said as he got up and started to leave.
"No fair, Adam! We were playing," the girl said but none of them could stop laughing.
I caught his hand and he turned to look at me. He was definitely mad at me because I had caught him playing around. Usually he acted so focused, like a man who didn’t have times for things like this…but I smiled and shrugged my shoulders.
His shoulders dropped as he sighed then sat next to me.
There were five kids, three girls and two boys.
"So, who is she?" The boy who had first noticed me asked him.
"Kids, this is Dr. Crystal Richards. She's an amazing doctor," he said then turned his attention to me, “The two youngest girls are Vivian and Lillian. The boys are Rick and James. The oldest girl is Vicky. Say hi, kids."
"Hiiii," they waved at me.
"Hello, guys. I'll also be a volunteer here soon. I hope you guys can show me around," I said.
They were all quiet and looked at each other.
"Is she your girlfriend?" Vivian asked Adam.
"Pfft, he wishes," I chuckled.
"Well, it might happen. Who knows?" He smirked at me.
"It's a waste though; you're a beautiful lady," Rick said.
"Maybe when I get older, we can get married," James said.
"Oh wow. Thank you, James," I giggled.
I noticed that Adam and Vicky frowned at my conversation with James.
I could understand why Vicky would be upset; maybe she already had feelings for James. Kids could get easily threatened by adults.
Now, as for Dr. Hunt…
I smirked wickedly, "Did you hear that, Dr. Hunt? James has reserved my hand in marriage for the future. Now that's a gentleman."
James turned red and Rick nudged him playfully, but Vicky rolled her eyes.
"Yeah, sure, whatever. Happy married life," he said dismissively.
"Oh my, is the great Adam Hunt jealous of a little kid?" I covered my mouth to keep myself from laughing out loud.
"Just shut up," he frowned.
"You're better at bullying him than we are," Lillian said in a giggle.
The rest of them chorused in agreement.
