The woman and her son bade us goodbye and left.
"Patients like them make me love this job," Sarah said with a sigh.
"I get how you feel," I sighed also, "Well, it seems like we both have nothing else to do, so do you want to go volunteer at the children's hospital?"
“Oh, I…" she stopped as Catherine walked past us. She waved at us, but I caught the smile she gave Sarah, “I…I...still have some stuff to do."
I shrugged and headed to my office.
As I closed the door, I took off my scrubs and changed into my normal clothes. A simple black pleated skirt and white long-sleeved t-shirt. I wasn't really a fan of fashion trends, maybe because I could barely make out time to shop for the things I needed.
I preferred simple outfits, that's all.
Speaking of outfits, I picked up Adam's scrubs and stuffed them into a bag.
On my way to the children's hospital, I dropped off the coffee-stained clothes at a dry cleaner’s. Then I continued my way to the hospital.

I took a deep breath and rubbed my hands together, "I can do this."
"Hello there. You're here to volunteer?" A female voice asked from behind me.
I turned to see a middle-aged lady holding two baskets with different treats for kids.
"Yes, I am," I answered. "I'm Dr. Crystal Richards, an independent doctor currently working at Adam Hunt's hospital."
"Adam's worker, hmm?" she asked, "Alright then, follow me."
"Alright, ma'am," I said as I followed behind her.
"So, why do you want to volunteer?" she asked.
"Kids are a healthy distraction and I'm not really busy these days," I explained, "I just thought I'd help out during my free time.”
"A healthy distraction, huh?" She asked rhetorically, "I know someone who volunteers here based on that."
Great, now I was really excited. When we arrived at the entrance, I could hear the loud chatter of the children. We both walked into the room.
"Oh, he's here already," she said as she pointed towards the end of the room.
I saw Adam with some kids. It was a surprisingly cute moment.
He sat on the floor cross-legged and two of the smallest kids sat on both his thighs. The other three were lying on the floor in front of him and listening closely as he read a story.
"Just do what you're comfortable with," the lady said before leaving, "I have to wrap the treats."
"Okay, ma'am, thank you for the opportunity," I said with a smile.
As she left, I walked quietly over to Adam and he didn't even notice.
"And the Prince picked up the frog and kissed it, and it turned into a beautiful princess,’" he read, "Wow, they've really changed this since the last time I read this as a kid."
One of the kids noticed me, but I signaled for him not to say anything.
