My door opened and I suddenly felt a chill.

I looked up and saw Amanda standing there.

"Fuck," I muttered.

"There you are," she sighed, "What happened to you?"

"Nothing really. What are you doing here?" I asked.

"What am I doing here?" She raised a brow, questioning me. "You've not called me even once since the last time. I've dropped numerous texts. Messages. Voicemails. Nothing. And here I was thinking that something bad had happened to you."

"I was occupied, and I am now. You have to leave," I said.

"Leave?" She crossed her arms, "Okay, Adam, what's happening to you?"

"Nothing really. I just want you to know I'm no longer into any of those things anymore," I sighed and returned my attention to work.

"You…are you saying what I think you're saying?" She asked.

"Try calling my number," I said.

Frowning, she brought out her phone from her bag then dialed my number, putting the phone up to her ear.

"You blocked me?" She asked.

"Yeah. I'm going through a lot of changes right now, and it needs me to cut off old relationships," I explained.

"I don't understand."

"Long story short, I fell in love," I smiled. "It's as simple as that. I suggest you do the same thing."

"Who says I haven't?" She said in a seductive tone that unnerved me.

That was my third mistake...listening to her.

"Look, Amanda, I'll send you a million dollars," I said as I brought out my checkbook, "How about we make this disappear?"

"You think I'm some sort of whore?" She frowned.

"No, whores are paid a lot less.”

"You've really changed," she said, "I like it."

She started to approach my desk.

"Yeah, sure, whatever," I shrugged as I wrote out the check, "I'm making it out to you, right? Amanda Williams.” I tore out the check and handed it over to her, “You can have this and leave. I’m really sorry.”

“Now, that’s not fair, Adam,” she said as she took the check, only to crumple it then toss it away, “I’ve worked harder than the rest of your flings. I’ve been loyal. I’ve stayed by your side. I deserve some sort of reward, you know?”

“Which was the money you just tossed over there,” I pointed out.

“I want a better reward,” she insisted, “You advised that I also fall in love, right?”

“You need someone to fall in love with?” I raised a brow, “Well, that’s not difficult. I can put you through to some of my friends. I know the rich and powerful are your type. Besides, some of my friends have been really interested in you.”

“Why would I want those commoners when I could just get the top dog?" she asked.

"Some of them are more powerful than I am, Amanda," I said.
