I turn my head when Konrad takes my blood. I don’t like the sight of needles. Darren puts a cool cloth on my forehead. “God that feels amazing.” I sigh at the coolness. “Almost as good as you both.”
I hear a choking sound and I freeze. Oh God. I peek under the cool cloth to see Konrad still standing there with an IV bag. “Oh God, Darren save me,” I whisper, covering my whole face with the cloth.
“Baby.” He laughs and rests his head against mine.
“Alright Summer, I’m going to put in your IV,” Konrad says through his laughter. I throw out my arm, not looking at him.
“Alright I’m going to send this in,” he explains, taping the IV down on my arm.
“He’s gone.” I pull the washcloth off my eyes, sighing. “You didn’t tell me he was still here.” I glare at them.
They both laugh. “Baby, how are we supposed to know you were going to make a comment like that?”
I hate when they are right.
My stomach churns and I lay completely still not wanting to be sick again. “At least we’ll know for sure if I’m pregnant or not.” I cup my belly.
What if I'm not? What if I did all of this for nothing and got their hopes up? The thought of that scares me because now that I think I am, I want to be a mother more than anything.
Around thirty minutes later the medicine starts to kick in and I feel so much better; the fluids are helping.
Walker and Darren are sitting on either side of the bed. “If you guys don’t leave me after all of this, I’ve got it in the bag,” I joke.
Walker laughs. “Darlin, I had full plans of stealing you the second I saw you. There’s no escaping us.” He kisses my cheek.
Konrad comes back a few moments later, carrying a piece of paper. “Well, I would think you wanted to know these results first.” I grip their hands tight in anticipation.
Konrad smiles widely at us. “You’re pregnant!”
I could fall over I breathe a huge sigh of relief. “This is the doctor Etta is seeing, she’s great.” Konrad hands Darren a card. “I’ll be back in a few.”
Walker looks at the paper showing my pregnancy results taking a pic with his phone. How cute is that?!
“I’m kind of hungry. Do you think they would let me eat?” I’m not sure how I have the stomach to eat right now, but after throwing up everything I have, I’m starving.
Walker stands up. “Doesn’t fucking matter if you’re allowed or not. You’re hungry and you will eat.”
I can’t resist the urge to say, “that’s not the only thing I want to be fed” as I rub my finger down his abs.
He throws his head back in exasperation. “You are going to be the death of me,” he growls, taking my finger from his stomach, kissing it. “Now be a good girl and I’ll get you some food.” He pulls the blanket higher under my neck. “Try to rest.”
I watch him leave, sighing. “I love you both so much, Darren.” I turn my head so I can see him. “Our baby is going to be so loved.”
He puts down the railing of the bed, scooting me over a bit so he can climb in beside me, pulling me to his chest. I didn’t know how much I needed that. “You will be the best mom, if we ever get to see our baby, considering our parents,” he jokes.
“Oh yeah, we may need to lock the front gate.” I laugh thinking of my mother with her face pressed in between the bars, begging for me to let her in.
“I hope it’s a girl, I can see a mini you running around.” He gives me the cutest look. I close my eyes and just bask in the happiness of it all now that I’m not dying from being sick.
Walker comes back carrying a bag and Darren moves out of the bed making room for Walker to sit next to me. “What did you get me?” My mouth waters.
He pulls out a small little cup. “Chicken noodle soup and a Sprite. I asked Konrad what would be okay for your stomach.”
He opens the lid and dips the spoon in, blowing it slightly before feeding me. “You don’t have to feed me.”
“I want to feed you baby, you scared me being so sick.” He pushes my hair behind my ear.
I don’t argue with him and I let him feed me every bite and give me small sips of the Sprite. I can see how worried he is.
