Page 22 of The Forbidden Alpha

These are the people who are living up to the standards of Alpha Lucas, strong and reliable. They have a lot of things to offer for this pack, while I am nothing but a kitchen accessory.

What should I do so I could be more useful to him?

I was in the middle of gloomy thoughts about my incompetence when I suddenly heard Leila’s voice behind me.

“Celine?”

I turned to look at her. She raised her brow at me, wondering what I was doing.

“Are you done?” I asked while walking toward her.

“With what? Where did you go? I was looking for you everywhere. I couldn’t find you,” she said in a perplexed voice.

I just shrugged. “Just somewhere,” I replied, not wanting to tell that I had an encounter with Lucas at the hill. I wasn’t in the mood to explain. Leila was just looking at me like she was studying me.

I avoided her gaze.

“Anyway, let’s go in. We need to rest already,” she said.

It’s good that she did not interrogate me more. I followed her, and we went inside the quarters together. There were still some pack warriors roaming around, but the omegas were nowhere to be found. Maybe they all went to our quarters already.

I sighed. I remained quiet the whole walk to our quarters. Leila would glance at me every now and then without actually saying anything. While inside the quarters, I quickly went to my room and settled on my bed. My roommates were already asleep.

“Are you okay?” Leila, who had just arrived, asked.

I stared at her. “Can’t you really spare some time to train me?” I asked, almost begging. I saw the shock on her face as I felt the hot tears pouring down my cheeks.

I was hopelessly weak. I need to be strong, and I cannot think of anything else to do this other than her. The only way I could prove my worth was to get stronger, to prove to the Alpha that he made a good decision to accept me into his pack.

A hint of despair flashed through Leila’s eyes. Then, she went to sit beside me on my bed, calmly tapping my shoulder to comfort me.

“Please, Leila, please,” I begged, hoping she might find it in herself to say yes.

She sighed again. “Celine…I’m sorry. I’m sorry if I can’t. But it’s part of the pack’s rule. I think you should go and ask the Alpha for his permission first. That way, you will have the chance to train with the warriors. It will be a big help for you if you really want to know how to fight,” she caressed my back and gave me a tight smile.

I bit my lip hard and avoided her gaze. I didn’t say a word. Seconds later, I felt her standing. She cleared her throat. “Go to sleep now,” she said before our light went off. They were all lying on their beds already, while I was left there, still up and thinking.

I wasn’t able to sleep early and soundly that night. I kept on thinking of ways to train myself. I thought about what Leila said about going to Alpha Lucas, but then I was hesitant. He already has a bad impression of me. There wasn’t a time when we actually agreed on something, so I’m scared I might not be successful if I tell him.

‘But what would you lose if you try?’

I stopped thinking when my wolf interrupted. I sighed. I was already lying on the bed. My back was flat on the bed, and I was facing the wood frame of the bed above me since I was on the lower part of one double deck.

‘If you really want this, then you have to try. Do something if you want a purpose, just like what you were praying for earlier! Assert! Ask the Alpha! Be brave.’

I swallowed hard and closed my eyes tight. I couldn’t stop Cinna from talking about what I should do. But I remained quiet, though. I just let her talk and talk until I finally had it in me to make a decision.

I bit my lip.

‘I’ll talk to him tomorrow,’ I said to my wolf.

‘Good. Good.’

I sighed and finally decided to close my eyes to sleep.

“Leila! Leila!” I called her.
