I heaved a deep sigh again before walking toward Lucas. His eyes bore on me as I approached him. The intensity of his gaze almost made my knees weak in fear.
“Celine,” I called in a deep baritone.
I stopped walking and briskly turned to him.
“Sir…” I slowly said. His brows furrowed while shifting on his seat, and he crossed his arms.
“So, you cooked that dish, huh,” she said.
I bit my lip and cleared my throat. “Y-Yes…”
My hands trembled in anxiety. Is he going to lash out at me? Did my food taste like crap for him?
“Hmm. It’s good. I like it.”
My eyes widened. “R-Really?” I couldn’t help but feel the excitement rushing through my veins.
He just stared at me and even raised a brow. “But that doesn’t make you fit to be in my pack. You’re still weak, Celine. No one in my pack is weak. Even the omegas have skills beyond their usual chores. I don’t need a mere servant. I want a warrior who can be a servant.”
The excitement in my body immediately fled. I averted my gaze, feeling the shame creep into my system. It felt like a knife just stabbed my heart multiple times. Once again, reality slapped me with the truth.
I couldn’t move, and I didn’t know how to react. It was embarrassing to hear that from the Alpha himself.
He didn’t say anything after that, nor did he tell me to leave his pack. He just went and did not bother to look back. It was as if he reminded me of my shortcomings, which hurt me so much.
I wasn’t myself when I left the mansion. And it felt even heavier when I saw some of the omegas in the field, training and having their sparring partners. Lucas was right. This pack is on another level. They are strong, and they are wise. I have no place here. A painful poke stung my heart upon that realization. It was as if the edge of a sharp sword had just hit my chest. I bit my lip to fight the raging tears from coming out. My breath started to become heavy. And before I could even make a scene there, I quickly took off to where my feet would bring me.
The fear of being lost or being attacked by a scheming rogue didn’t bother me anymore. Everyone in the pack was so busy that I’m sure no one would ever notice that I was able to get out. I let my feet lead the way, and the next thing I knew, I was already on top of a mountain. I wasn’t familiar with this mountain. After all, it would be my first time to roam around the outside of the pack ever since I was brought here. While standing there, I saw the shining and bright light coming from the moon above.
I closed my eyes and let them fall freely from my face. Moon Goddess, is this really what my life would be? Is this really the life that I will be living till the day that I die? Please give me a sign. Please give me something. Please give my life some worth. I sobbed hard until my knees couldn’t take it anymore. I slumped to the ground, my head facing down as I let my tears wet the soil.
Suddenly, I heard a growl in my head. I let out a sigh and closed my eyes again.
‘Celine…’
It was Cinna, my wolf. I took a deep breath.
‘Celine… you need to be brave. This is not the end of the line for you.’
‘How can you say that, Cinna? How?’
I heaved in another sigh when all of a sudden, I heard some footsteps coming toward me. I opened my eyes and slowly turned around only to see a familiar set of blue eyes eyeing me. My mouth parted.
“Alpha Lucas…”
He stopped walking. His hands were in his pocket as his brows furrowed, and he surveyed my position.
“No one comes to this hill but me. What the hell are you doing here?
Chapter Eleven
I quickly stood. I fixed myself and looked at him as well. I swallowed the lump in my throat. “I-I’m sorry…I-I didn’t know this was your place. It is my first time going out.” I looked down.
“You’re always sorry. When will you stop saying sorry?” he asked.
I bit my lip and bowed my head, unable to think what to say. I just slowly walked past him. I heard him hiss. “Watch where you’re going, she-wolf. Don’t make me regret my decision to let you stay in my pack even though you have nothing to offer,” he said, his voice dripping with venom.
His words were like knives that stabbed my chest. Once again, a warm pool of tears escaped my eyes as I slowly went down the hill. I felt weaker the moment I reached the ground. I stared at the arc of the pack, and from there, I could see werewolves who were busy training.
