“Yes,” I said firmly. I’d felt it to be true when I’d put on the ring.

“Well, now that’s got my attention,” he stated as his lip curled. “Come, let’s sit in the living room.”

I didn’t get a chance to respond as he moved past us, and I glanced around at the others, sharing my speechlessness with them. This guy was weird as all hell.

We all moved into the living room, and Jack sat down on the vacant couch with me, Chum and Bug squishing in on the other side of me as Creeper stood. Everyone else crowded around the room, standing in the doorways or off to the side as Jackiel eased into the armchair.

“The angels will be looking for you. Many of them seek an apocalypse to cleanse the world,” Jackiel mused as he swirled his glass and cocked his head at me. “Daughter of Remiel and a Prince of Hell. Fascinating.”

“Jophiel said he knew my mother,” I said softly, and Jackiel just nodded.

“Yes, they would’ve fought on the frontline a millennium ago during another apocalypse,” he said as he sucked his teeth, and my stomach rolled at the sound. “Did he tell you just who she was?”

This made me pause, and Jack instantly rested a hand on my thigh, which didn’t go unnoticed as Jackiel arched a brow but didn’t comment.

“No,” I murmured as my heart quickened.

“Well, perhaps it’s time for you to learn just who she was, it’ll help you understand things,” he said as he leaned back in the armchair and took a hefty swig of his whisky. “Remiel, ‘Thunder of God’ as she was known. One of the first female angels to ascend in the ranks. The Bible and other lore will say she was male, but don’t believe that sexist crap. Remiel fell almost twenty years ago. I heard she saw a vision, and in order to see it through, she had to fall. Although considering what you’re telling me, perhaps it was to bring you into this world,” he mused as he stared hard at me as if he’d find the answers by peering into my soul.

“She had visions?” I frowned at this. My father had said she’d seen a prophet who told her of my power.”

“She may have sought a true prophet of the Lord to verify her vision was indeed true, and how it would be made true,” Jackiel suggested with a shrug. “But she was a Gatekeeper of Heaven before she fell, an angel of hope, guiding souls into Heaven.”

I just stared at him, processing his words. My mother had had visions? Had she seen what I could become?

As I stared at him, something flickered through his dark green eyes. It was only a glimpse before he masked it, but it was enough as my mother’s voice whispered into my mind.

“You’re not telling me everything,” I stated as a calm washed over me.

Jackiel smirked as his eyes lit up, and he leaned forward as he clasped his glass in both hands.

“Fascinating, I saw it. There’s a part of her inside you, isn’t there?” he said with a delighted grin. “For a fraction of a second, it was like I could see her in your eyes.”

“She’s with me, she speaks to me,” I said carefully.

His gaze fell to my ring, and he clucked his tongue. “She bound her grace into that ring to guide you and still be with you. She always thought ahead, well, saw ahead,” he said as he flicked his gaze back to mine. “Well, now I believe you fully, my sweet child.”

“So, you’ll tell me everything?” I asked as I leaned forward, and he just chuckled.

“Of course, Lily. I knew Remiel more than I’ve been letting on. I also knew she bore a child to a Prince of Hell, but I had to be certain it was you. It’s not something Heaven or Hell will take lightly,” he stated, and Xander grumbled something, but Jackiel ignored him.

“Remiel saw a vision half a century ago of an impending apocalypse, but the corruption in our ranks had already begun, and her words of the disaster to come fell on ears who didn’t care, and she was ignored. But I learned of what she saw. Her vision foretold a day of Armageddon when the rips exploded and the gates of Hell were opened. Demons would flood the lands, not needing host bodies when the gates were fully opened. It wouldn’t stop there, angels would wage war on them, as is their duty, and casualties on both sides would be disastrous. Heaven, Hell, and Humanity would all crumble in this battle, leaving nothing but ash and dust, and body-laden lands. The whole world would perish. The angels, despite their vault of weapons, would also fall,” Jackiel explained before gulping down the rest of his whisky.

“My mother saw that, and they didn’t believe her?” I gaped, the words shocking me to my core.

“Some believed, but the High Council silenced her before she could spread the word, dropping her down the ranks and cutting her off from Heaven. She then had another vision several years later, a vision before she sought out Asmodeus. She knew that a child born from both demon and angel could be the key to saving humanity, demons, and angels. So she chose to completely fall from Heaven to save the world, by having you,” he said, his voice dropping as he stared hard at me.

The room was so silent, you could hear a pin drop.

“So I was a planned creation,” I muttered. “Did she also see what would happen to me? How Baal would try to use me to open the gates?” I growled, and he pursed his lips.

“Yes.”

My stomach dropped as Jack snatched up my hand, and I gritted my teeth. She’d seen what he was going to do to me? Had she seen my father die?

Had she seen her own death?

That last thought rocked me to my core as my throat tightened. Had she been so willing to sacrifice everything, even me, to save the world? I felt both utterly blown away and betrayed in the same moment.
