“Awww,” she gushed. “You think you’re in a fated pair?”

My cheeks heated slightly, but I nodded. “I guess so. I can’t really explain it, other than to say that every time I think I’m interested in an alpha, something inside me tells me that he’s not the one.”

“You’re not worried that you’ll miss him since you move around so much?”

I shook my head. “No, but again… it’s just this deep feeling that we’ll be at the same place at the same time when it’s meant to happen.”

She hummed. “I hope you’re right. Fated pairs are so romantic.”

I grinned, then took a sip of my mocha and hummed at the flavor.

“Good?”

I grinned. “You’ve always been able to pick out the best coffee spots. This is fantastic.”

“Too bad you’ve already posted about it. It’ll be too busy for me to get in and out once that post starts getting engagement.”

My phone buzzed in my pocket, and I laughed. “Speaking of which, that felt like a notification.”

I pulled my phone out, looked at the screen and frowned. I held up one finger to Jessalynn. “Just a sec, it’s my papa.”

I thumbed the answer icon and held the phone to my ear. “Hey papa, what’s up?”

“Isaiah Jordan Starling, where in god’s name are you?” he demanded, an irritated tone to his voice.

I blinked. “San Francisco.”

“What the hell are you doing in San Francisco?”

“Visiting Jessalynn, plus… I live here.”

“So were you just planning to blow off your granddad’s birthday party and not tell anybody then?”

The blood drained from my face. “Was that today?”

“Yes it was today.”

“Oh, crap.”

Papa sighed. “I take it you have the plane out there with you?”

“Yeah.”

“Get to the airport. I’ll have Gerald call back the flight crew so hopefully they can be filing a flight plan by the time you get there. You should just make it if you can leave in the next hour or so.”

“Yes papa.”

“We’ll discuss this further once you’re home.”

I swallowed, a stone forming in the pit of my stomach. “Yes papa.”

The line went dead before I had a chance to hang up.

“What’s wrong?” Jessalynn asked. “You look like somebody died.”

I shook my head. “Nobody’s dead… yet. Papa might murder me though. I forgot that granddad’s birthday party was tonight… in Chicago.”

“Oh, shit!”
