Chapter 1 - Zaya

 “Zaya! Over here!”

I grinned as I spotted my best friend, Jessalynn, and headed in her direction.

Jessalynn stood from the table and hugged me before we sat. “How is it that you get more gorgeous every time I see you?” she asked, picking up her cappuccino to take a sip.

I laughed. “Shouldn’t I be asking you that?”

She grinned. “It doesn’t hurt. But really, you look great. Are you doing anything new?”

I ordered a mocha as a waitress came around, then turned back to Jessalynn. “Not really. I had a fantastic spa day last week, but that’s about it.”

She laughed. “I saw the photos. I take it that it’s worth the price?”

I nodded. “More than worth it. My only regret is that it took me so long to get there.”

“You had a bunch of sponsored visits lined up first though, didn’t you?”

I sighed and leaned back in my chair. “Yeah. Don’t get me wrong, I love it, but I’m not going to make that mistake again. It turned out to be pretty stressful. I’ve put sponsored posts on hold for a month or so now that I’ve cleared out the backlog, and going forward I’m going to insist on more flexibility for dates, or a premium if they need a post up prior to an event or something.”

“Makes sense. It also lets you plan better. For a while I worried that you’d pass out from jet lag; jumping from one side of the globe to the other and back in a matter of days.”

I laughed. “The glamorous life of an influencer.” Then I pulled out my phone and took a photo of the mocha as the waitress set it in front of me.

She shook her head. “It’s more work than most people expect.”

I studied the photo, then started coming up with a caption for it. “Don’t I know it. And lonely at times. I wish you’d reconsider and come with me.”

She shook her head. “No thanks. I’m not good enough with a camera, and I’d rather go somewhere where the most I have to do to get to the scenic spots is call a car service. It’s even better if the place I’m staying is right there, like my parents’ beach house.”

I laughed. “That does seem about your speed.” I posted the photo. “And done.”

I put the phone back in my pocket.

“Speaking of which,” she continued. “I’m taking vacation time in a couple weeks, and will be in Harris Cove. You should come.”

I laughed. “A travel influencer, taking a vacation?”

She echoed my laughter. “Yeah, but that’s work. You should come out for fun. We can laze around on the beach all day, and go to fancy restaurants every night. You can even do a reduced posting schedule if you feel the need to work.”

“Hmmm…” I mused. “It would be nice to spend more time with you.”

“Think about it. I’ll text you the days that I’ll be out there.”

 “Great.”

There was a moment of silence as I stirred my drink to cool it slightly.

“Have…” she paused. “You said it’s lonely sometimes. Haven’t you ever thought about looking for an alpha? Somebody who will go with you?”

I blew across the foam, noting how the drink continued to steam.

“Sometimes,” I admitted. “I can’t deny that the omega part of me wants to curl up in strong arms.”

“Why not stick around longer?” Jesslaynn asked. “Stay home for a few months and see if you meet somebody. It wouldn’t take long with your looks. Slender, blond hair, hazel eyes, delicate features; you’re like every alpha’s dream omega. Hell, I’d probably make a pass at you myself if I were into men.”

I shook my head. “I just… for a while I’ve just had this feeling that when I meet my alpha I’ll know, and that it’s not time yet.”
