“Yeah?”
“Did I call at a bad time?”
Cord smiled, “It’s never a bad time when you call baby.”
“You sound tired boyo.”Moira teased.
“I am but in a good way. Hey, have you ever heard of Five Finger Death Punch?”
“Are you bloody kidding? I love them. Me and Roxi got to see them at the Garden a few years ago.”
“How would you like to be my guest at a private gig they’re doing at our Manhattan location the third Friday in June?”
“Seriously? Oh, Cord that’s bloody terrific for you! I’d love to be your guest. My editor Holly said there was an article about you and Collen in The Voice last week.”
“Yeah and thanks to that article, it seems business is on an upswing.” Cord said. He then told her about the numbers Collen and Al had given him and the details of the gig in June.
“Oh Cord, this is wonderful. I’m so happy for you boyo.”Moira beamed.
“I still can’t believe this is really happening. But the best part about it is that I get to tell you about it. To share this with you. I love you so damned much Moira.”
“And I love you too Cord. I’m honored that you want to share this with me. It makes this all the sweeter.”
Cord and Moira talked a little longer, but she ended it telling him he needed to get some sleep. As much as he didn’t want to, he knew she was right. After telling each other good night, it was Cord who hung up first. Somehow, he managed to get to his feet and grabbed a shower. He felt bone weary when he slipped between the sheets. Despite that, he had made a decision based on his idea. He would do a bit more research and if things still looked good, after the concert in June he would move forward with his plans.
Chapter 15
Moira
Moira zipped up her bag, “Well, I think I have everything.”
“You’re grinning like a fool.” Roxi teased from where she sat on Moira’s bed.
“I can’t help it.” Moira sighed happily. “I’m spending a whole week with Cord. At his house. I know we spent most of our trip in St. Lucia together, but this is different. I mean, it feels different anyway.”
Roxi nodded, “It is different honey. You’re seeing him on his home turf. That would be daunting to most women.”
Moira sat beside her best friend, “Roxi, do you think me; and Cord are crazy? I mean we’ve only known each other what…two months now and we said, ‘I love you’ to each other after only two weeks.”
“Moira, that’s not crazy. At least not to me. Look at my parents for example. They dated only three months then got married. I think THAT’S crazy.” Roxi paused and studied Moira. “You and Cord aren’t thinking of running off and getting married this week, are you?”
“What? No!” Moira laughed. “My ma and da would kill me if I did that. Ma has had me wedding planned since I was five, so I couldn’t elope if I tried.”
“True, your catholic guilt wouldn’t let you.” Roxi said thoughtfully.
“Oh, sod off.” Moira huffed, making Roxi laugh. “I gotta go or I’m going to hit traffic. Will you lock up for me?”
“Sure. Once I finish my laundry I’ll lock up. Now, you get going and have fun. If you meet the band, I want pictures and an autograph bitch.”
Moira laughed as she hugged Roxi. Pulling her rolling suitcase behind her, she made her way out of the apartment toward her car. Roxi stood at the door and waved, before turning back inside. Moira was both excited and nervous about this next week. A whole week in New York with Cord. Would he be different than what she saw on St. Lucia? She shook her head at her foolishness.
‘Bloody hell Moira, get your act together. Cord loves you and you love him. You know who he is and the city he lives in won’t change that.’She told herself as she navigated from the city.
Cord
Cord sat on the stoop of his brownstone watching for Moira. Cord had woken early that morning and like a madman, started cleaning his home. Not that it needed much attention, since he had a housekeeper that came in once a week to clean. Sally had asked him why he hired someone, and Cord simply pointed out it made sense given the hours he worked. After a quick cleaning, he made a run to the store to stock up on food for the week. Now, for the last hour almost, he had been sitting outside keeping an eye out. He couldn’t explain why he was nervous about having Moira here in his home, but he was. He looked up when he heard a car. He felt himself break into a smile as the blue civic pulled to stop in front of his home behind his truck. When Moira climbed out and rounded the hood, he stood and hurried toward her. He reached out, pulled her into his arms and kissed her. He felt Moira’s arms wrap tightly around him as she returned his kiss. It felt like it had been forever since he had last held her, and she felt so damned good in his arms. Slowly they parted and Cord reached out to caress her cheek.
“Hi baby.”
