She rotated around and stared at me with an irritated look on her face. "Let me call you back." She removed the phone from her ear and set it on the counter.
Since her trip out of town this weekend, her attitude has gotten worse. I didn't know what she had going on, nor did I givea damn. As long as my daughter was being properly taken care of, I didn't care what she did.
"What do you want?" Nya sneered with her hands on her round hips.
I couldn't help but stare. Nya was a beautiful, brown skin woman with a curvy shape. I used to call her my thick-thick. She was big-boned, but her curves were out of this world. Her ass couldn't act right, though, which was one reason we weren't together.
I took a seat at the kitchen table. "What do you have planned for this evening? I want to take Nini to get ice cream?"
She shook her head. "I have nothing planned, but why ice cream at six in the evening? She hasn't eaten dinner yet."
I ran a hand across the back of my neck, not knowing how I was going to get out of this one. "I already told Nini we could go get it. She can eat later."
With her eyes narrowed, she sauntered toward the table. I knew I was in trouble.
"No, she can't eat later. She's going to eat after I finish dinner. You don't have to be with her in the evening. I do. She'll be hyper, and you don't have to deal with that either. You go home and do God knows what with who."
I threw my hands up, not trying to argue with her. I knew if I offered to get dinner for Nini, Nya would argue anyway, especially since she was already cooking. That was why I told her she'd eat later, but knowing Nya, that would've worked. "Ight, man. You didn't have to say all that."
If I didn't stop her, she'd keep going, which was something I didn't have the time for.
Nya's eyes were still narrowed. "Hmm, so are you doing something with someone?" She dropped her arms to her sides.
I lifted an eyebrow and stared at her. "And if I am, what is it to you?"
Her nose flared as she waved me off. "Whatever. That's not something I'm worried about. You're in a relationship with your work. No woman would ever want you. What time would you give her?" She stomped her feet as her chest heaved up and down. She was getting hostile for no reason. Still, that was expected when it came to her.
I laughed unamusingly, knowing Nya was trying to bait me. I shot her a venomous look.
"Right. Right. Let me set you straight, real quick. If I were in a relationship, it's not your business. You didn't want me, so don't worry about what I have going on," I growled through clenched teeth.
My blood boiled just that fast as I balled my fists up. Nya wanted to get me out of pocket, so I had to leave, or I'd snap on her, which was something I didn't want to do.
Nya was the reason I didn't want to put my faith in another woman. From the way she ended things with me, it scared me to put my trust in any woman. What would be the point in getting into a relationship if the woman wouldn't accept the fact that I loved to work?
I got up from the table and headed back to Nini's bedroom. I now had to go and break my daughter's heart by telling her we couldn't get ice cream today. When I walked back into her bedroom, she was lying on the floor with her doll tucked under her arm. As I stepped farther into the room, I saw that Nini was asleep. With a deep sigh, I was relieved. I wouldn't have to let her down.
After I laid her in the bed, I kissed her cheek and left her bedroom. Saying nothing else to Nya, I left the apartment. That lady knew she could push my buttons, and I always let her. I needed to stop stooping to her level as she wasn't worth getting bent out of shape for.
After work, I always found great pleasure in sitting in my living room in front of the TV. Since I moved into this apartment, I have made it my home. It wasn't easy getting used to it since my home used to be with Nya. However, I now enjoy the dark brown and green living room. Since my mother was skilled with colors and decorating, she helped me decorate my home. My couches were brown, and I had a rug that was brown and green with designs on it. It matched the wallpaper that was in the living room area of the apartment. My coffee table was wooden brown, with a picture of Ni'Asia sitting on it. I also had a couple of basketball magazines on the table. Paintings and photographs hung on the walls. Since I knew I'd be moving soon, I didn't have much.
I sat in front of my TV watching a football game when my cell phone rang next to me. Reaching for the phone, I checked to see who was calling and wasn't surprised to see Leighton's number flashing. I had been waiting for her call since Friday.
"Wassup?" I answered.
"Good evening, A'Mylo. I'm calling to let you know that we'll start looking at houses tomorrow if you're available."
Since I heard Leighton's voice, I couldn't get it out of my head or the way she looked. She had a voluptuous shape, with curves in all the right places, dark skin reminiscent of a Hershey bar, a round face, a long, pointed nose, and full lips. It was her wild, curly hair that drew me to her the most. I wanted to run my fingers through it just to feel how soft it was. I could see her standing in front of me as if she were here right now.
"Hello? Are you still here?"
I had to shake my head to clear the visual that I saw. Ain't no way I zoned out like that. Maybe I needed to take my ass to sleep, too.
"Yeah, I'm still here. I look forward to seeing the houses with you. What time?" I hoped it didn't cut into a project I had planned for tomorrow. Aaron and I have two floors to do tomorrow.
Leighton hummed. "We can start around nine-thirty if that works for you."
I could no doubt work with that time. "Cool. I'll see you then."
