She cried into his chest for a few moments. Loving his arms around her and knowing how much she had missed human touch.
It had been so long since she had been hugged or given any sort of affection that she didn’t really remember it.
Sitting here in Brek’s strong arms was wonderful.
Pulling back, she wiped her eyes and wrote, “Sorry.”
“Don’t ever apologize to me sweetness. I loved holding you in my arms. I'm only sorry I caused you pain.”
She shook her head and wrote, “You didn’t. I just miss my family and talking about what happened is hard. I am actually surprised I am doing better than I thought after last night. It was like everything came rushing back at once. But after seeing you, I knew I would be okay.”
His eyes went soft and she gave him a tiny smile. “I wish I could talk to you.”
Brek kissed her forehead softly, “You are talking to me. Even if I can’t hear your voice, I hear it in here.”
He pointed to his heart and she melted. “I want to stay here all day and get to know you better, but I do have to go to work soon.”
She sighed and wrote, “I have to work too. But maybe you could come back tonight, and I could make dinner?”
Brek grinned and she smiled back. “I would love that sweetness. It's a date.”
She bit her lip, knowing she had never gone on a date before. He looked down and pulled her lip from her teeth. Then he swiped his thumb ever so softly over her bottom lip.
“Are you alright? You look stressed.”
She shook her head, and wrote, “I have never been on a date before.”
Brek grinned, “I haven’t since high school, and those didn’t really count. At least not to me.”
He pulled her in for a hug and she hugged him back. He kissed her forehead again and pulled back.
“I really need to go sweetness. Trace has been at the station all night.”
She nodded, her eyebrows going down for a second at the use of his deputy’s name and he sighed, “I hate it though. I hope you know. I don’t want to leave you, but I have to.”
She gave him a smile and wrote, “Go to work. I'm just fine here. Trust me Brek.”
He shook his head, “I worried about you all night. I don’t want something to happen to you.”
She smiled, writing, “ I am fine. Trust me. I'll keep all the doors locked and get some work done. I promise.”
He still looked skeptical, “If anything happens, please text me. Okay?”
He pulled out his phone and she gave him hers. After it buzzed, he immediately programmed her number into his phone.
She did the same and he hugged her one last time. “I will be counting down the hours until tonight. What time do you want me?”
She wrote, “6?” and he nodded, “Six is perfect. I'll be here. Can I bring anything?”
She shook her head. He laughed as he quickly turned and walked out her front door but turned back to her.
“Lock this sweetness. I'll be back tonight.”
She smiled and locked the door behind him, then watched him walk to his cruiser and back out of her driveway.
That man. Oh, he was sweet. She still didn’t know what to think about him, but oh boy. Did she want to find out.
Turning away from the window, she went to work, needing to distract her mind from the handsome man that left her wanting everything.
