Chapter 5
Brek
Driving away from Sienna this time was harder than the first time.
Watching her house as he pulled away was not easy either.
He wanted nothing more than to get back to her and hold her.
He hated that she had ever been through trauma and had lost so much because of one man and his selfish, evil ways.
All he wanted was to go back there and make it alright. He wanted to hold her in his arms and protect her from sadness and anything or anyone that would harm her in any way.
Especially the man who came into her house last night. He needed to get to the station and try his best to solve this mystery.
He could only hope that the man wouldn’t come back to Sienna’s house. And the only consolation he had was knowing the man usually never went to the same house twice.
That was the only reason Brek had been able to leave her.
Feeling frustrated, he turned into the station parking lot and got out of his cruiser.
Trace was in his office and was going over some paperwork when he walked in.
Trace looked up at him and smiled. “Took your sweet time getting here this morning. Did you sleep in?”
Brek laughed and shook his head, “Sorry, I went and saw my girl.”
Trace raised one eyebrow, “Oh yeah? And how is she? Did you tell her she was your girl?”
Brek nodded, “I did.”
Trace’s eyebrows raised in shock, “I can’t believe you did that. You just met her last night.”
Brek shrugged. “I don’t care. She is it for me. I know it without a doubt. And I asked her how she felt. While she does think it’s a little fast, she feels the same.”
Trace sat back in his chair, shaking his head. “I am happy for you. I really am. I hope it works out for you.”
Brek smiled, “I know you don’t really get why I am doing this, but I promise, one day you'll get it.”
Trace laughed, “All right, not everyone needs to fall in love right now. But seriously, I am happy for you. I want to meet this girl.”
Brek grinned, “I want you to meet her too. She's kind of shy, and, well I forgot to tell you one thing about her.”
Trace sat back in his chair and gestured for him to continue. He told Trace everything that Sienna had told him and the effect it had on her, and the longer he spoke, he noticed a change in his friend's demeanor. Trace’s body was tense, and his eyes looked glassy.
When he finished speaking Trace seemed to compose himself, and he exclaimed, “Holy shit Brek, are you serious?”
Brek nodded, “Yes. Unfortunately, I am.”
Trace sat back in his chair, hard. And it was Brek’s turn to raise his eyebrows. “What's wrong?”
Trace shook his head. “Nothing. I was just thinking. It’s nothing. Really.”
Brek shrugged, “If you say so. I’m taking Sienna out on a date tonight. Do you want to come by her house later and meet her?”
Trace nodded, “I'll try my best.”
He stood and Brek sat back, “Trace,”
