He kissed me on the forehead. “You go be with your family.” He rose from the bed and started gathering his clothes from the floor. “I’m heading to the clubhouse to take care of some shit, then I’m going to hang out with Siobhan for the rest of the day. Did you want me to drop you off on my way?” he asked as he finished getting dressed.
“No. I’ll take a rideshare. I can’t believe this is happening.”
Making his way over to me, he gently pulled me up and held me in his arms, creating a sense of warmth and security. I loved being in his arms. It was like nothing in the world mattered. And I needed his support today more than ever.
“I love you. Thank you for being here for me.”
“I love you too, sweetheart.” He tightened his embrace. “Everything’s going to be alright. I’m always going to be here for you.”
I WAS EXPECTING YOUR CALL
J.D. Stevens
As soon as I walked into the clubhouse, Caesar trailed closely behind me, bombarding me with an endless barrage of questions about Agent Williams’ disappearance. Questions I didn’t have the answers too. Despite the overwhelming desire to kill him, I didn’t, all because of her.
“Church in ten!”
Before the party started, there were still some important matters we needed to vote on. Caesar shut the door behind us, as I sat at my desk, then he sat in the chair in the front of it.
“Rumi called you?” I asked, running my hand through my hair.
I already knew she had because even though she didn’t want to have anything to do with Caesar, it never failed that something would come up and she called him. I guess she did it hoping he would come to the rescue, or maybe she wanted to blame himfor everything. The fucking woman was toxic to everyone around her. She was my old lady’s sister, but the truth was the truth.
“She was in fucking tears, man,” he said, rubbing his hand down his face. “She was fucking accusing me of having something to do with this shit.”
“Of course, she did, Caesar. She’s always accusing you of something. So that’s not shocking. She called Rebel too. I didn’t have anything to do with it, but I think I know who did.”
“Who?”
“It might have been, Rev or Demon. Possibly both. They didn’t like the fact I left him alive.”
“What the fuck are you going to do?”
“I’ll call Demon to confirm my suspicions.”
“Then what?”
“What do you mean, then what? They can do what the fuck they want. The heat is off me now for Revels disappearance. And I had nothing to do with Williams going missing. My hands are clean but that doesn’t mean I don’t want the motherfucker dead.”
I retrieved my phone from my pocket, dialed my brother-in-law’s number, and activated the speaker.
“Caesar’s in the room,” I said just as soon as he answered just in case what he had to say he didn’t want anyone else hearing.
“Caesar,” Demon said.
“How you doin’, man?” Caesar asked.
“I can’t complain,” Demon replied. “J.D., I was expecting your call.”
“And let me guess why.”
He sighed. “It had to be done, J.D. and I won’t apologize. I understand why you didn’t do it which I don’t fault you for. You’ve found someone, and you didn’t want to hurt her. But when I told you to take care of it or I would, that included takingcare of the man who let my baby sister and my nephew be killed by an agent he turned a blind eye to.”
“I understand why you did it, D. But you could have given me a fucking heads up.”
“And then you would have had to lie to your woman.”
He was right because I was the first person she asked because she knew I had a reason to kill him. I didn’t know if I could have lied to her but if I didn’t, it would have cost me my family.
