Is he going to cry? I don’t think I can handle tears from the big guy.

“I’m okay, Claud. You saved me.” I pat his hand. “Can you grab, Raven? We need to get to Jayden.”

Claud nods and kicks several demons into the pit, enraging Typhon every time one slams into one of his heads.

Claud really likes kicking and swatting demons. He scoops Raven up and deposits us next to Jayden who is lying on the ground. Adrian hovers over him with Jayden’s shield in hand and fighting off demons that get too close.

“I don’t know how much longer we can last, Beth,” Adrian says warily.

He’s sweating and exhaustion pinches his features.

Raven has been poisoned by demon claws and I have no clue what the hag did to Jayden.

I turn my back on Jayden and Raven to protect them from oncoming threats.

“I know it’s bleak but we need to figure something out because I have no idea how we are going to snap them out of this,” I say and lash out at a demon.

I eye the Apollo descendant. “Are you sure you can’t heal? Or counteract the magic in some way?”

“I have never heard of an Apollo descendant having more than one gift, Beth. If you can really call seeing the future a gift.” He grimaces.

“Have you ever tried?” I ask again. He may be our only hope to save Jayden and Raven.

“What do we have to lose,” Adrian grumbles.

“I’ll cover you,” I say and tighten my grip on my whip.

Adrian props the shield up at his back and lays his hands over Jayden’s chest.

Hecate shrieks in anger as a green glow lights Adrian’s palms and pulses into Jayden.

His breathing evens out as Hecate throws a spell at me and it slams into my chest.

A scream is ripped from my lungs as my chest burns with hot lava. I claw at my skin to get it to stop.

This must be how I die. Well, that’s fucked up.

“Beth,” Jayden screams in my face. “Beth.”

I groan as Adrian’s hands glow over my chest easing the feeling of being burned alive.

“I think I’m okay. Help Raven,” I croak.

“You are not okay; you were fucking smoking,” Jayden says with a growl.

He holds out a hand to help me up and I take it gratefully. He lifts me from the hard ground, and I stare down at the holes in my borrowed shirt.

“What the fuck kind of spell did the crazy bitch hit me with?” I ask.

I call my whip and stand over Raven while Adrian uses his new healing magic on her. Claud laughs as he picks up demons and throws them in the pit, laughing louder as Typhon roars.

“He’s like a giant toddler.” Jayden chuckles.

“Yes, but he’s helping and having fun while doing it. I seriously don’t know why he was seen as too anything to be free,” I say sadly.

“I don’t know.” Jayden picks up his shield and slashes out at the nearest demon.
