“We need to find Raven and get back to the academy as soon as possible,” I say, taking a step forward.

How the fuck are we going to get back in time to help? We’re across the country from the academy, and the only transportation is Jayden’s car which has definitely seen better days.

Once I’m out of the cave with Jayden on one side and Draven on the other, I breathe a sigh of relief.

I don’t really like enclosed spaces.

“Beth, look who we found,” Raven calls from farther out in the valley.

I sprint to her, dodging rocks and shrubbery.

“Raven, you guys are okay.” I scan Raven and Greyson head to toe, and they appear to be fine.

I wrap my arms around her, hugging her hard with relief. Everyone is okay. No one died.

How did we get lucky enough not to be injured? We have the students, and now we just need to get back to the academy.

That’s when her words register, and the magic pulsing off the man who’s with them feels familiar.

“Daughter.” He grins, nodding to me. “You have done very well.”

My shoulders stiffen and I take a step back. My palms sweat and I clench them into fists at my sides.

It strikes me how much I look like him. He’s the king of the gods, but he has my same green eyes, and his skin is a deep olive. The only difference is the color of his hair. It’s a dark onyx where mine is a soft caramel.

“Father. Here.” I hand him the spark.

“Thank you, Bethany. We have been told there are many other missing items. A war is brewing, and I have a feeling it will not just be amongst the gods but you heroes as well.” He scrubs a hand over his face.

I don’t think it’s possible for a god to be tired, but Zeus looks as if he’s exhausted.

Draven steps next to me, a little closer than he should, and I don’t miss the raised eyebrow Raven shoots my way.

I shake my head imperceptibly. I am not unpacking all this guy drama in front of the king of the gods.

“Draven, your father is proud of you, even if it was stupid getting caught on purpose.” Zeus raises a brow at him, and I snicker.

Draven follows me from the corner of his eye.

“Thank you, sir. I think.” Draven chuckles.

“I told you that you’re an idiot.” I shake my head.

My father is standing in front of me, but all I can think about is my friends at the academy.

They need us there, like now.

“Can you help us get back to the academy?” I ask hopefully.

My gut is still telling me that there’s something very wrong there.

“Yes, you are needed there.” He nods. “But I need a moment.”

The king of the gods eyes me and waves a hand for me to follow him a few feet away.

“You know they will still be able to hear us,” I say with a raised brow.

“They won’t. I have god magic.” He grins.
