Is it the hooded figure coming back to attack me now that I’ve killed their pet?
A figure comes around the bend, but I hold still until I’m sure who is there. The electricity should no longer be hiding the cave from the outside, but the monsters could get in as easily as my friends.
When Jayden comes into view, I relax, letting out a heavy breath.
He grimaces. “What happened to you?”
“There was a fucking Hydra in there. It’s not pretty when a Hydra head explodes.” I shake my head and move past him into the other tunnel. “Where are the monsters?”
I blink as I race to the cavern where the Hermes students are being held.
“They all disappeared at the same time the electricity on the mouth of the cave did,” Jayden says, coming up behind me.
“They just disappeared?” I peer over my shoulder at him, and he nods.
“Beth?” Draven shouts, and I run into the cavern where he and the other student are being held.
“How is it that all the monsters are gone but not the magical ropes?” I grumble as I crouch in front of Draven. “You’re stupid. You know that?”
I shake my head and untie him.
“If I am, so are you.” He raises an eyebrow at me, and I smirk, holding out a hand to help him up.
When we are both standing, he shocks me by wrapping his arms around me in a tight hug.
What the hell is going on?
I stand completely still with my arms at my sides as he hugs me. My eyes are wide as I stare over his shoulder at an angry Jayden.
“Thank you for coming for us,” he whispers into my hair, making me shiver.
It’s not a good shiver. My hair tickles my neck at his words.
“How about you fucking help me get them free?” Jayden’s booming voice makes me flinch.
Draven jumps back, his cheeks pinking before he turns and crouches in front of one of his siblings.
We make quick work of the ropes, and as we free one, they help free the others until we’re completely done.
“What now? Where’s Raven?” I ask, standing up and dusting myself off.
“I haven’t seen them. I was more focused on helping get them out,” Jayden admits.
His eyes are angry, and I have no idea why.
I turn on my heel and lead everyone out of the cavern and into the tunnel to the mouth of the cave.
Draven comes up beside me, magic sparking on his fingers as he scans the outside of the cave.
I appreciate that he’s not trying to step in front of me, but next to me. I peer out of the cave and see that Jayden is right.
All the monsters have disappeared.
Whoever that was in the cave must have summoned them when I killed the Hydra.
Shit.
Dread pools in my belly. Where did they summon them to? There’s only one place that makes sense and that is unacceptable.
