“We need to get to higher ground,” I yell to Raven.

“I’ll distract it. You run around to the top of the cave and see if you can wrap your whip around its neck,” she yells back.

I dodge the giant’s hand again and climb up the rocks that make up the small cave. Rubble breaks beneath my stomping feet, and I pray that I don’t cause it to collapse on top of Jayden and Greyson.

I stumble to a stop at the top of the rocks. The giant has its back to me as it keeps trying to stomp on Raven.

I pull the whip back, hoping that I can wrap it around the giant’s neck.

The giant steps back as Raven lashes out at it, and I let the whip fly.

The electric current wraps around the giant’s neck. It roars, pitching forward to the edge of the cliff and taking me with it.

My body slams into the giant’s back. Everyone starts screaming.

The giant stumbles over the edge and takes me with it.

I’m airborne for a second before I drop like a stone. I grab my necklace, activating it, but I don’t know why since I’m about to fucking die.

My life flashes before my eyes as I continue to fall. A scream tears from my lips. Then something swoops out of the sky, heading right for me.

Bracing myself, I wait for the blob to barrel into me, but it darts beneath me. I crash into a skeletal back with an “oof.”

The back I am currently flying on is bony and not at all comfortable. I shift so my legs are straddling it, and my jaw drops.

The horse looks like something straight out of the underworld. It’s black and completely made of bone. The wings flap back up to the cliff. I’m not even sure how the delicate bones in the wings allow it to fly.

Smoke blows from its nostrils as it snorts.

It can’t hear my thoughts, can it? A weird neigh like a laugh bursts from the creature, and I shake my head.

Asshole.

The horse dives down suddenly, making a scream bubble out of me.

Jayden’s voice yells down to us. “Skullrider, stop being a dick.”

“Skullrider? Really, Jayden?” Raven chuckles as the damn horse brings me back up to the cliff.

“He named himself,” Jayden grumbles.

We land, and I stumble off the horse’s back.

“You didn’t tell me that you had a monster horse, Jayden,” I grumble, shaking my head.

“He just saved your life, Beth. At least thank him.” Jayden pats the horse.

“Oh, I will definitely thank him. I just don’t appreciate my thoughts being read and being dropped.” I sigh and pat the horse.

“Want to tell me where he came from?” Raven asks, eyeing the horse.

It came from Hades, for sure.

“The underworld.” Jayden shrugs, scratching between the horse’s ears.

“Well, thank you for saving me, Skullrider.” I pet his flank, but it’s weird petting a skeleton.

“Are you just able to call him when you need him?” Raven asks with a frown.
