“Fuck,” Jayden says, and I straighten my spine.
“What?” I ask, terrified.
What can possibly be worse than the situation we’re in now? We are literally directly below a fucking mythical dragon.
“We’re going to have to dodge its tail,” he says. “Damn it.”
Fuck. I had to think it and jinx us, didn’t I? I’m worse than Raven, but no one can cover my thoughts with their hand to keep them from spilling out.
Greyson glares at Jayden. “You didn’t think of that when you hatched this insane plan?”
“Let me hang out the window with a damn sword,” Raven pipes in.
“That could work,” I say at the same time the guys both yell, “Fuck no.”
It’s actually pretty funny since they don’t really like each other.
“Why not?” she asks, and I raise an eyebrow at them.
Jayden rolls his eyes as he continues to swerve out of the way of giant fucking dragon feet. “Great plan, Raven. Let’s stab the tail of the giant fucking dragon trying to kill us and hope it doesn’t make the thing go crazy.”
I smack Jayden’s arm. “Be nice.”
He’s so laser focused on what he’s doing he doesn’t even react.
“Look. It might be a way to keep the tail from getting in the way while we hightail it out of here,” Raven says, trying to reason with them. “I won’t kill it, just cut it a little bit. No one wants Ladon dead since he protects the apples.”
Both their heads are shaking as Jayden turns to avoid another giant leg, throwing me to the side and into him.
“Do you have a better plan?” I yell at the stupid men. “Because we need to keep the car intact, or this journey to the East Coast is fucked.”
What the hell is wrong with these idiots? We don’t have a better plan. I don’t see them coming up with anything, and Jayden’s plan got us into this mess in the first place.
“Fine.” Jayden huffs out a breath and deflates a bit.
“What? No. Raven, give me a sword. I’ll do it.” Greyson holds his hand out to her, and Raven laughs hysterically.
“You don’t even know how to handle a sword. You’re a shifter. I’m the daughter of one of the best weapons experts in human history. It is literally my power. Move over. You are not doing this.” Raven tries to move him, but he doesn’t even budge.
“It’s my job as your mate to protect you,” Greyson roars.
I even flinch back. What the fuck was that?
“Fine, I’ll hang out the window and fucking zap it,” I yell at the overbearing male, “but whatever we’re doing, we need to do it now.”
“No, you fucking won’t, Beth,” Jayden growls.
I glare at them both. “We are wasting time. I bet the other two Hesperides know where we are. We need to get out of here like fucking now, so stop being overbearing assholes and let the little, weak women get us out of here, or so help me, I will fucking zap you both every day at random until we are back at the academy.”
“I think you should do that anyway.” Raven laughs as she climbs over Greyson who finally lets her on his side of the car and rolls down the window.
“Me too.” I giggle.
Maybe I will because they are being major assholes.
Jayden groans. “Can we focus here, please?”
“All right, I’m ready,” Raven yells from out the window.
