Jayden guns the engine, and Greyson wraps his arms round Raven’s waist to ground her inside the car.
“Don’t stab it unless it’s coming toward us,” Jayden instructs, and there’s a muffled “duh” from out the window.
The dragon roars again while we move out from under it in the range of the giant tail.
“Be ready,” I yell to Raven as the giant tail swings toward us.
When it’s a foot away, Raven slashes at it.
The dragon shrieks, and the tail swipes the other way, giving us a moment and a straight shot out past the dragon.
Ladon roars and spins in a circle. One of its heads barrels toward us. It’s not going to let us get out of here alive.
More heads lunge at us, and I scream. We are all going to die.

“Faster, Jayden,” I scream as I stare out the front window. “He spun much faster than should be possible.”
How the fuck is something so big so damn fast?
“I’m going as fast as I can,” Jayden says through gritted teeth.
“You’re gonna need a new windshield in about ten seconds if you don’t go faster.” I shake my head and roll down my window.
“What are you doing?” Jayden asks with suspicion.
“I’m just going to give it a little shock, and maybe it will back off and not smash your windshield.” I raise an eyebrow at him, but he doesn’t argue.
Shrugging, I pull at the lightning in my veins until its crackling across my fingers.
“Beth,” Raven shrieks and points to the windshield.
I lob the lightning at the closest dragon head, and a pain-filled roar chills me to my bones.
All the heads coil back, and I sigh in relief.
“Don’t you think we should turn the car around now, Jayden?” I ask because he’s making me nervous driving in reverse.
“I want to get some space between us before stopping to turn around.”
A roar sounds behind us, and the ground rumbles as Ladon comes after us again.
I turn in my seat to see the dragon and how close he is.
“Well, that may not be possible because that fucker is huge and eats up space way faster than we do. He’s gaining on us again.”
“Shit.” Raven scrambles back into her seat behind me. “How are we getting out of this?”
“The Hesperides and Ladon are bound to the garden, and since it’s here, I don’t think they can leave the town.” I wring my hands together as small sparks snap across my fingers. “If we can get out of town, we will be safe from them.”
Greyson grimaces. “Just from them, though. Whoever sold us out probably has more monsters chasing us.”
“We will cross that bridge when we get to it,” Jayden says, his brow furrowed in concentration while he continues to drive in reverse.
“Jayden, watch out,” I scream.
One of the dragon’s heads comes down a little too close for comfort and cracks the road beneath us, splitting it into two.
