Sav came out of the bathroom. “What’s going on?”

I grabbed her and shoved her out the door, pulling a sweatshirt over her head.

“Eckhart was here. He saw. He fucking saw the body.”

She started shaking and crying again as I got her down the steps.

“Oh, my god. He’s gonna call the cops. I’m going to be arrested! I’ve never been in trouble before! I can’t go to prison, Hawk!”

“Shhh. I know. We’re gonna get you out of here. I don’t want you here. I’m going to get you to the diner and have Moose meet you there.”

Savannah gripped my arm and turned to puke more. Sirens sounded in the distance and I knew it was too late to get Sav to safety.

“What about you?”

I gazed down at Savannah as cop cars flew into the alley, blocking my only exit. Eckhart hopped out of one and pointed and screamed.

“That’s her! She killed my son in cold blood! Arrest her!”

I turned to Savannah and grabbed her by the arms. “Look at me, baby. You need to listen carefully. Call Lily right away. Get her to the police station.”

“Hawk? What do you mean? How am I going to-”

I pressed my lips to hers, then pulled back. “I love you, Savannah. Just do as I say and it will all be okay.”

The police came toward us, and I stood in front of Savannah. “I shot him. I’ve got two guns on me, one is in my waistband at my back. That’s the gun I used. The other is on my front.”

I put my hands behind my head and kneeled to the ground.

“Hawk! No!”

Savannah tried to stand in front of me, but the cops moved her away. She screamed, tears running down her face as they pulled her away.

“Stop fighting them, Sav. Just go.”

Moose, Striker, and the Prospect came running over. Moose ran toward the police and pulled Savannah from their arms.

“No! You can’t take him!”

I shook my head as they grabbed the guns from me and placed me in handcuffs.

“Baby, it’s gonna be fine. Go with Moose. I love you so fucking much, Sav.”

“No! Please no!”

As they walked me past Striker, I nodded toward him.

“Lloyd is taken care of. Watch Eckhart and take care of my woman.”

Striker nodded as he moved toward Savannah. Moose had her wrapped in his arms as he sat on the ground with her.

She was shaking and crying and my heart broke. I wanted to be there holding her, but I knew this is how I needed to protect her right now.

They shoved me into the cop car and slammed the door. I watched out the window as they pulled away and my woman sat on the ground, once again without me there.

Afewhourshadgone by and the sun was finally rising. I could hear women’s voices down the hall and stood at the jail cell, waiting.

Lily and Savannah came around the corner and my heart sang.My woman had shown up!She ran toward me, throwing herself at the bars.
