“I’m so sorry, Hawk! You can’t do this!”

I touched her face through the bars. “Baby, it’s fine. I’ve done jail time before. I will do whatever it takes to protect you.”

She shook her head. “I love you. I love you so much. I’m so sorry I was such an idiot. I should have just trusted you.”

“That’s all in the past. We can move on from it.”

Lily moved forward and leaned on the cell.

“I’m going to take care of everything, don’t worry. You just went on probation, so you’ll have to do some jail time. Possibly prison, but I’ll try to get it down.”

Savannah cried again, and Lily hugged her. I looked right at Lily and made sure I lowered my voice.

“Make sure you get Eckhart on charges. He was there and snuck in. How else would he know? They were up to something.”

“I know. We have security footage from the building. We’re going to get them, don’t worry.”

I turned to Savannah and held her face in my hands.

“Listen to me, Sav. Just let me handle this. Stay at the clubhouse and don’t leave. No work, no nothing. Eckhart is going to seek revenge on you. Can you do that?”

She nodded. “I think so.”

“No. Do it. I can’t protect you here, so you’re gonna have to trust me. Please. I know I lost that trust but please, just trust me on this.”

Lily touched Savannah’s arm. “I’ll be in the waiting area. You guys need a minute alone.”

“I need to tell you the truth, Sav. I can’t stay here and have you thinking I’m a monster.”

She nodded and reached out for my hand.

“Okay. I’m ready.”

Taking a deep breath, I told her.

“I came from money. My parents are part of the elite rich in New York City. I went to med school in my dad’s footsteps and specialized in OBGYN. I realized that’s what I loved and was really fucking good at it. I had an office with a family friend and worked with some of the best hospitals in the country. One day I had a young woman from another prominent family come into my office.”

I released Savannah’s hands and paced around the cell.

“She was only fourteen. It wasn’t the first time I had a young girl in my office. Things are different up there. Anyway, she was complaining about some pain and bleeding. So we did a scan, and it ended up that she was pregnant. Poor kid broke down crying. Her father had been... he was fucking raping her every night.”

I punched the wall next to me as the memories flooded in. Savannah stood still as I continued on.

“She was so scared to go home. I knew I needed to do something. I couldn’t let her leave. She made the choice to abort, and I did the procedure that day. Dropped everything to help this poor girl. We were in a time crunch before her parents realized where she was. I made up a name and stole somebody else’s insurance to make it look like it was a regular patient.”

Savannah had a few tears in her eyes, and I rushed over to wipe them away.

“I had a cabin in upstate New York. I rushed her out the back and brought her up there. I was going to call some contacts I had and help her run away. Start a new life. But they had tracked her phone. They showed up and threatened her life if she told anybody the truth. All that shit about the baby being mine was a lie to get me more time in prison... I turned myself in the next day. I used my power for good but evil won.”

Sav gazed up at me. “So you left?”

I nodded. “Yeah. I did some time, but because I was who I was, they let me off and I was under house arrest for a bit. Once I got off, I had nothing. I sold the rest of what I had and bought a motorcycle. Rode around and just fucked up even more.”

She ran her fingers down my cheek. “But it led you here. And you saved me. It wasn’t for nothing, Wyatt.”

“I’ll always save you, Sav. You’re the light of my dark life. I love you so fucking much.”

I leaned in and gently kissed her through the bars. The officer came around and tapped on the floor.
