It gives me the feeling that we’re not in the situation we are. This isn’t a casual meet up with an old friend. Well, maybe for Jax in this case, but that doesn’t matter. It won’t be long enough before someone comes after us.

My foot shakes. I cross my arms and huff to myself. The other three give me weird looks but I don’t care. It looks like I’m the only one worried about Insignys. We don’t have time to rest or have “small talk”.

“Can you relax a bit?” Mace says.

My temper slips. “Did you forget what happened just a few hours ago? You guys don’t know my father like I do. Insignys is going to be looking after me soon, and there’s going to be a big mess between us and Sand Rock. Weneedto get in and out of Sand Rock territory before a fuckingwarbegins with them and my father’s men.”

Jax and Natalie stop talking. I expect Mace to get pissed off or something. Contrary, he mulls over my words while exchanging looks with Jax. Then, he gets up from the couch.

“She’s right. We should get some shut eye now so we can have an early start,” he says.

I stand up. “It’ll be too late for that. We need to get moving now.”

“Look, it’s too cold for you to move at night. Jax also needs to rest to heal all of his injuries. We’ll leave before sunrise, if that makes you feel any better, princess.”

The urge to punch him in the face resurfaces. I keep my cool. My time will come. When he doesn’t look as attractive then I will definitely break his stupid nose.

Mae takes my silence as compliance. There’s no fucking point in fighting it anyway.

He turns to Natalie. “Is there somewhere we can sleep?”

She nods and exits the kitchen to head towards the rooms. Seeing her side profile while walking away reminds me of someone. I swear she looks familiar but I can’t place her.

Maybe she just looks like a celebrity or something whose name I can’t remember?

Natalie comes back. “You two can sleep in the guest room.” She points at Mace and I.

Her suggestion brings me out of my thoughts. We buck at the suggestion.

“Together?” we both say.

Another nod. She leads us to the guest room at the end of the hallway. A queen sized bed and a bathroom.

I did say there’s no point in fighting it, right?

“If you guys need anything, let me know. Help yourselves to the fridge when you wake up,” Natalie says.

Mckenna and I nod before she closes the door shut. We stand there in silence, waiting for the other to move. We stare at the bed as if it’s going to make itself into two.

“Do you have extra clothes?” I mumble.

She looks at me incredulously. “Yes, I grabbed a duffel bag when you kidnapped me.”

I roll my eyes. There she goes again with the unprovoked fucking attitude. I make the first move and head to the left side of the bed.

“Do you like the right side or the left side?” I ask her, just to be nice.

She shrugs. “I don’t care.”

I take off my shoes and lie down. The bed’s comfortable, maybe because it’s also a king size bed. Natalie’s got herself quite the furniture in this small house.

“It’s really big,” I say.

“What?”
