“The bed. It’s big. Do you like it?”

“Yeah, it’s nice I guess.”

McKenna stands at the doorway, arms crossed, and pursing her lips. She rests her weight on one leg, making her hips stick out. She looks sexy even though I feel like she’s cussing me out in her head.

“I can tell you like to work out.”

She jerks her head. “What?”

“Your build. You have an athletic build, I can tell.”

“Thank you?”

“Yup.”

I want to tear my insides out. We have no problem being at each other’s throats. A shared room is what debilitates us? What would my clan think of me?

“You like to exercise too?” she asks.

“Yeah, I have to keep up my stamina. It helps with my shifting too.”

She nods. “Oh, okay, that’s nice.”

“Yup.”

Another painful silence. I make popping noises with my mouth, thinking of something to say. Nothing comes to mind that will make the awkwardness go away.

I clear my throat. “I thought you wanted to sleep already.”

“Just feel weird sleeping with my dirty clothes,” she says with a shrug.

She points toward the bathroom. “I’m going to at least wash off my face. Are you going to use it first?”

“No, go ahead.”

“Thanks.”

She shuts the bathroom door. I don’t know why I expected her to leave it open and give me the whole show. She has an amazing body. One can tell with just a glimpse.

After a few minutes, Mckenna comes out with pink cheeks. She must’ve used scorching hot water. Although, her complexion looks slightly better.

She fluffs her side of pillows. After taking off her shoes, she crawls inside. She lays at the very edge of the bed. Her back is facing me.

“Do you have enough room?” I ask.

“It’s a king-sized bed.”

“Just wanted to make sure.”

“I’m fine, thanks.”

“Great, goodnight.”

“Yeah, you too.”

McKenna turns off the lights. We’re shrouded in utter darkness. The owls hoo from a far distance. The crickets fill the awful silence as they appropriately should.

I can’t find my sweet spot. Every position is too stuffy or just not right. I try placing a pillow between my legs but that makes it hotter. I lifted up the hems of my pants a little to give my legs ventilation.
