Behind him there’s some sort of box I noticed Marilda and Finn setting up this morning for the gender reveal, but my attention goes right back to the way Devon is looking at me, making me feel this is something more.

“What’s going on?” I whisper as I near him, and Devon takes my hand, tugging me closer before he lowers to one knee.

Devon - Part 3

I’m so fucking nervous. I don’t know why, but fuck, I want to get this right.

She looks stunning walking towards me, her stomach swollen, her skin glowing.

She’s like the sun.

Warm. Bright. And burning for me.

“What’s going on?” she whispers as she nears.

I simply smile, reach my hand out to her and tug her closer, impatient to close the distance.

Then, I lower to one knee.

A gasp escapes her, her trembling free hand coming to her chest as her eyes turn glassy.

“Dev?”

“You know I love you, little mouse. You know there’s been no other to steal my soul like you have. You know I’d burn this entire world to the ground to protect you and keep you safe and in my arms, always. And you know that I’m a powerful man, yet there’s no other that walks this earth that can bring me to my knees, other than you.”

Reaching into my shirt pocket, my fingers clasp the ring and I pull it out as I take in her wide blue gaze, glassing over with unshed tears.

There’s no box, just the twelve carat pink oval cut diamond sitting atop of a thin rose gold diamond encrusted band, and those big blue eyes widen even more as she takes it in.

“In less than a month, our little family will begin.” I continue, drawing her gaze from the rock I’m holding, back to my eyes. “You’ve made me happier than I ever thought possible, giving me an entirely new purpose that I can’t wait to share with you until we are old and grey with grandkids and great grandkids.”

I don’t say that perhaps I’ll be gone before I can see great grandkids given my age, because that shit doesn’t belong in this conversation.

Tears finally pool over and stream down Jaxcen’s cheeks, yet her smile is wide as she stares down at me, taking in my words.

“And now I ask you for one more thing, my sweet Jaxcen.”

Returning my gaze back to her slender fingers, I position the ring at the tip of her nail before peering back up into her ocean blues.

I have to clear my fucking throat. There’s a lump lodged there, sticky and persistent as my own emotions run rampant inside my chest.

And then, I say the words that have been on the tip of my tongue for months.

“Marry me.”

Jaxcen - Part 4

It’s not really a question, but it doesn’t need to be. I’m already nodding, a string of yes’s flying from my lips as he slips the ring onto my finger.

It fits perfectly, and I don’t even care to look at the rock. It could be a scrap of old metal for all I care, because nothing else matters but this man right here and the moment we aresharing right now, in our own little bubble even though the entire town is watching on.

His dark eyes flick up from my finger to my face, and I leap at him, my belly getting in the way as I try to reach him for a kiss.

Chuckling, Devon repositions me onto his raised knee and claims my lips thoroughly as we kiss, our tongues dancing with hunger and excitement.

Cheers ring up all the way over where the town watches on, and as we kiss, a countdown starts up, chanted by everyone watching.

“Five, four, three, two…”
