“So who’s her mate then?”

I paused. “I don’t know,” I blurted out. “And I’d rather not find out.”

“Then how do you know she even has one?”

“Because she has a toddler,” I said.

“Oh.”

“Yeah, oh. There are certain things you need in order to make that happen.”

“I mean technically you don’t have to have an actual mate. Are you sure she’s even mated?”

I glared at him. But was I? No. Could I handle knowing who her mate was? Whose face she woke up to every morning? Who… I shook my head. I couldn’t let myself go down that path.

“I have to go. Lock up when you leave.”

I pushed past Tarron, got in my car and drove straight to the Alpha House.

Mary Westinstill lived at Alpha House with her mate, Jason. They were the former Alpha and Pack Mother before the torch had been passed to Kyle and Kelsey who chose to live elsewhere in the territory.

When I knocked on the door, Mary answered.

“Micah? Is everything okay?”

“Fine. I don’t know. Is Kyle here?”

“Yes, he’s in his office.”

I didn’t even wait to be invited in. I pushed past her with a quick, “thanks.”

I knew the place well and knew exactly where Kyle’s office was. I wouldn’t say we were exactly friends, but I had known the Alpha my entire life and had helped deliver both of his boys.

I knocked harder than I meant to.

“Enter,” I heard Kyle’s voice boom.

I opened the door and walked in.

“Micah? Did we have an appointment Christine missed?”

“No, sir. I just need a moment of your time and then I’ll be on my way.”

I started to pace back and forth across his office a clear sign that my wolf was on edge.

“Do you want to sit?”

“No, I’d rather stand.”

“Okay, how about you tell me what’s going on then.”

“I’m leaving the Pack,” I blurted out.

“What? Why?”

He seemed incredibly calm for the bombshell I’d just dropped on him. Too calm. It made me even more agitated.

“Micah, tell me what’s happened.”
