“I don’t want to discuss it. I just need to leave, immediately. I’m not coming back, Kyle. I haven’t spoken with Grant or my father, but I am sure between the two of them they can work out something until you find a replacement.”
“Why?” he demanded.
I shook my head. “It doesn’t matter, this is my choice.”
I felt a tingling sensation and my body started to feel heavy as I struggled to stay standing.
“You’re using Alpha powers on me?”
I hadn’t considered this possibility.
“Tell me,” he demanded again.
My knees nearly buckled under the weight of his stare.
“I met my true mate,” I blurted out.
The pressure was instantly lifted.
“Well, that’s wonderful. I hadn’t heard. Congratulations.”
I tried not to cringe, but my face must have shown my distress and he quirked one eyebrow up as he watched me carefully.
“Is there some reason she cannot move here to Westin Pack instead?”
I didn’t want to answer, but once more I felt the weight of his powers.
“She’s already here,” I admitted.
“Micah, are you scared?”
“What? No!”
“Look, I get it. Both my sisters ran from their true mates too. It’s a crazy time. Your emotions are on a rollercoaster, and no one can prepare you for this. I promise, she’s worth it.”
“You don’t understand,” I finally said collapsing onto one of the chairs.
“Then tell me.”
I didn’t want to, but I had to.
“She’s already taken another mate.”
“What? No, that can’t be.”
“I wish it weren’t true, but there are certain biological factors that say otherwise.”
“Who is she? I thought you knew everyone in the Pack.”
“I thought so too. I think she recently moved here,” I answered successfully avoiding his question.
I could tell Kyle was racking his brain trying to figure it out.
“But who is she, Micah?”
I shook my head.
“You don’t know, or you don’t want to tell me?”
