I gave him a sad look. I didn’t know what to do. My wolf was already pining for Lucy. Could I even stay away from her?
“What am I going to do, Tarron?”
“I’m sorry man, I didn’t even know this was possible.”
“Me either, but I can already feel the pull to her. I can’t stay here.”
“What?”
“I don’t know if I’m strong enough to stay away,” I confessed.
“Then challenge his ass.”
“And hurt her? She made her choice.”
I turned the open sign to closed and locked up.
“What are you going to do?”
“Leave,” I said simply. “I have to.”
I was a doctor. I believed in science, not miracles and true love, yet my heart had instantly changed its rhythmic pattern to match hers the second I laid eyes on the beautiful woman my wolf wanted to claim.
It was just my luck really. I would spend eternity longing for a woman I could never have.
The thing was, I had an obligation to the Pack. I knew Grant could take over in the interim and I was certain they would find a new Pack physician. Heck, my father might even come out of retirement to pitch in once I explained my situation.
My heart dropped. I’d blurted it out to Tarron in a moment of shock. No one else could know.
“You can’t mention this to anyone!”
“What? You want to keep this a secret?”
“Tarron, I don’t even think she felt the connection. It was entirely one-sided, and I do not want to upset her life with her chosen mate. It’s not her fault, we literally just met.”
“How is it even possible that you just met someone if they are here in the Pack. You know everyone and everything around here.”
“Not her,” I said. “Look it doesn’t matter. You can’t tell anyone.”
“Well if you leave, people are going to ask.”
“Then tell them you know nothing. I could probably get my hands on some of the memory erasing serum the Force uses on occasion.”
“You know about that?”
“Of course I know about that. What did you say? I know everything around here.”
Tarron groaned. I knew he hated his words being thrown back in his face.
“No one,” I said again.
“What are you going to tell Kyle?”
“I don’t know yet. I should get over there now. I have to pack. You’ll take over for me as DM right? I’ll drop all the stuff you need off on my way out of town.”
“I think you’re being ridiculous. Do you even know her name?”
“Of course I know her name.”
