“Bullshit! You and your brothers are supposed to help us. Greg does his part, but you and Joshua are so damn selfish. Your Daddy has had to work extra hours at his job because you’re not here to help us. You need to call Greg so he can come get you from wherever you’re at and bring your ass home. I don’t know what’s gotten...”

I snap before she finishes her rant. “I’m not calling Greg for shit! He is the reason I lost my baby!”

“Your baby,” Momma gasps.

“Yes, my baby and if I hadn’t witnessed what Greg and his newbossdid or been traumatized from being shot at, my baby would still be alive! So, if Greg knows what’s good for him, he’ll keep his ass away from me!”

Anger radiates through me so strong, my body trembles. My hand goes to my stomach as the pain and heartbreak washes over me again.

“If youwerepregnant and lost the baby, then you can’t blame that on Greg. Women lose babies every day, maybe it was your body’s way of rejecting a baby by a white man. You don’t need to have any kids right now anyway, especially by that boy,” Momma sasses.

Tears of frustration roll down my cheeks. I can’t believe what I’m hearing, coming out of my own Momma’s mouth. Was she fucking serious right now? Not a ‘baby, I’m so sorry you lost your baby’ or any kind of sympathy, just negative shit and I am so over it.

“You know what Momma, I’m done. You and Daddy don’t have to worry about ever seeing me or my future children that I will someday have with my unapologetically handsome future Greek husband.”

“Sabre,” she yells as I hit the end button.

Using the back of my hand, I wipe my tears. No more, I tell myself. I love my parents, but I’ll just have to get used to loving them afar, because I will no longer deal with the manipulation, negativity, or contempt. I’m surrounded by a family that loves me and at least, I still have Joshua. My life will carry on without Momma, Daddy, or Greg and I’m fine with that.

After going into the bathroom to wash my face, I finally leave my room to join the others for breakfast. They have already started with the ladies sitting around the table. Sebastian and Yiannis sit at the ends, enjoining the conversations that are going on. Tech isn’t at the table, so I presume he’s in the office eating while communicating with the guys.

“Good morning, everyone,” I greet as I sit down.

They greet me back with welcoming smiles.

“Where’s Thing One and Two?” I ask since other than Tech, they were the only two missing.

“They’ve eaten already and went outside to do a sweep around the cabin,” Nina replies.

“Oh,” I respond using the serving spoon to put some scrambled eggs on my plate.

“Have you spoken to Xander?” Marisa questions.

Chewing up the rest of the eggs I just put in my mouth, I swallow and tell her, “Yes, he called me last night. He said he was fine and would call when he had a chance today.”

“That’s good,” Ismena states, smiling with a hint of worry in her eyes. I understand how she feels because I’m worried about him too.

Feeling the shift in the room, I turn the topic to something else. “So, what are we doing today? Movies, games, or baby/wedding planning?”

“I say we do a movie first. I washed Devyn’s hair last night and let it air dry, so I need to rebraid it,” GeeGee responds first, pointing to Devyn’s thick tresses that hang past her shoulders.

“Seeing there’s not much we can do down here, I vote movies, then games,” Nina says, then finishes off her orange juice.

When the others agree, we continue to eat, sharing what was going to be the first thing we were going to do once we’re back in civilization. Everyone laughs at Yiannis’ deadpan expression when GeeGee says she, Althaia, and Ismena were going to take a week’s long vacation to one of the islands to terrorize the cabana boys. Even Sebastian found his son’s reaction funny. Yiannis seems to relax some when Althaia takes his hand and kisses the back of it, telling him he was the only cabana boy to light a flame under her. I so love their relationship. I could definitely see Xander and I being just like them at that age.

An hour later, we’re cracking up to Martin Lawrence’s movieWelcome Home Roscoe Jenkins. I’d seen it several times before but laugh every time like it was my first time watching it. Sebastian and Yiannis had excused themselves and go into the office with Tech.

Just as Monique is about to give Martin a beating, lights start flashing with a siren blaring, causing us to jump and Devyn to scream.

“What the hell is that?” I try to yell over the noise.

Thing One and Two race down the stairs as Tech, Sebastian, and Yiannis rush out of the office.

“We’ve been compromised,” Thing One states.

“We saw it on the monitor,” Tech relays.

“What the hell is going on?” GeeGee questions as we all stand covering our ears. “And turn that damn thing off.”
