“Harley…” I cry.
“Kill them,” Luca demands, and his men run down the stairs from the balcony with shotguns in their hands.
“Run,” I scream at Harley.
Just as they reach their bikes, Luca’s men reach the gates and start shooting, but luckily, they take off before the men can get a good shot at them.
I’m jerked around when Luca pulls on my arms.
“What’s the meaning of this? You just tried to save the assholes responsible for my father’s death.”
“You don’t know that,” I declare, already knowing he was the man who indeed killed my father-in-law. I had a feeling he did, but now that Luca is saying those words, I can’t believe it.
“We know it was them, Serena. We have footage of them dressed as waiters, and your ex-lover, Harley, was the one who slipped my father the poison that killed him.”
Shaking my head, I say, “No, that can’t be.”
“Oh yes, it can. I will show you the recording if you like. Come inside. Do you know how crazy I’ve been trying to find you? I need an explanation.”
He holds my hand and leads me up to the mansion’s front door, wondering why I feel guilty about being with my husband.
The house servant opens the door, and we walk through the large double doors that lead to a massive foyer. Many stairs that lead to the second floor sit in the middle, and to the left is the formal living room, where I’m surprised to see my father.
He turns and looks at me, anger radiating through him. “Serena, where have you been? Do you know how worried we have been about you?” He stands, strides toward me, and stops once he’s reached me.
“I… I…” Suddenly, I don’t know what to say. Do I tell him Harley and his club kidnapped me? Because if I do, I know there will be consequences.
“She was with her ex-lover, Harley,” Luca explains, standing to my right as my father’s eyes widen in surprise.
“You ran off with that scum of a man and his biker friends? What were you thinking, Serena?”
Looking between my father and Luca, I ask, “Can we sit, please? It’s been a hell of a day.”
My father taps his finger on his cheek, his mind racing with questions.
“Please,” I repeat while Luca guides me to the living room and says, “Sit! Anna will get you a coffee.” I smile. “Thank you.”
Anna returns with three cups, saucers, and filtered black coffee. She pours us a cup, and I immediately take a sip. I’ve already had coffee this morning, but I need another one. This looks like it’s going to be a long day.
Luca unbuttons his suit jacket and sits opposite me while my dad sits beside me, waiting for an answer.
“So, what happened?” Luca asks.
I explain how Harley was in the hotel room and kidnapped me, including everything leading up to this moment.
Luca glares at me.
My father’s face is so red I’m sure he’ll have a stroke.
Luca stands and begins pacing the room. He’s angry, but I don’t say anything. I simply drink my coffee, waiting for the next question.
Suddenly, he storms out of the room, and I’m confused about where he’s going.
My father, however, doesn’t hold back. “Were you his whore, Serena?”
I gape at him.Did he really just ask me that question?“No, I wasn’t,” I state. “I’m not a whore, Dad, and no, I didn’t sleep with him.”
He smiles, but it’s not a happy one. He’s mocking me.
