Matty snorts like he doesn’t believe me, but he’s got his phone out and is already unlocking it. He takes a photo of Savage’s screen with the truncated message on it, briefly arguing with Sam about the angle he should be holding it so the gym’s fluorescent lights don’t reflect off the glass.

Savage’s goon sends the message with a hard tap. “There. Happy now, woman?”

“I have a name,” I mutter.

“And I have better things to do than babysit you.” Matty rolls his shoulders inside his jacket and cocks his head up. “I need coffee.”

The two idiots walk out of the gym without bothering to wait for me. If I hadn’t known how futile it would be to try running, that’s exactly what I’d be doing.

Instead, I trail after them with a sullen glower on my face, my hands shoved deep inside Savage’s jacket pockets.

“Want some chai tea?” Sam asks.

“Christ, no.”

I roll my eyes. AndIhave to watch my language?

“Don’t knock it if you haven’t tried it.”

“It smells like shit.”

“It smells delicious.”

“I’m fine with coffee.”

“Why don’t you ever want to try new things?”

“Because I’m not going through a midlife crisis, like you.”

We’re halfway back to the kitchen before I hurry up to them, wedging my way between their bulky bodies. “Did he reply?”

Matty growls, jerking away from me like I have leprosy. “I’d have said.”

“Maybe he hasn’t seen it. Phone him.”

They both pull up short, both turn to glare at me. I lick my lips, hold up my hands. “Please, guys. You don’t…” My voice shakes, so I stop to clear my throat. “You don’t know how much this means to me, okay?”

I’ve never been one to overshare. Fuck, Savage is the first guy I’ve ever slept with who knew my last name. It makes me cringe inside to have to reveal even a snippet of my life to these two, but like so many things lately, I guess I don’t have a choice.

“Someone came into our motel room and kidnapped them a few days after I met Savage.”

The goons just stare, not even a hint of sympathy in their eyes. I guess they’ve heard worse sob stories than mine.

“And not just that. They poured blood over everything, and left these dolls in the bed for me to find.”

Sam’s eyebrows perk up. “That’s dark.”

My eyes nearly pop out of my sockets. “I’m sorry…that’s darkis all you have to say?”

Matty sighs. “Look, woman, we don’t decide who goes where. That’s Savage’s job.”

“Please, just call Vito. He knows about my sisters. That message, that’s what we’ve been waiting for.”

“I found him?” Matty frowns at me. “That doesn’t mean anything.”

“It meanseverything.” I step up to him, grab his jacket. “He’s the only one who can help us find them.”

“Who?”
