Matias’s expression doesn’t change. Sam comes sauntering over, reeking of cigarette smoke. “What now?”

“Something about her sisters,” Matias tells him, not looking away from me.

“What about them?” Sam asks.

“They were kidnapped.”

“Just now?” Sam’s frown is as deep as Matias’s.

“You don’t know?” I stare from one to the other, incredulous. “Savage didn’t tell you?”

They share a mystified look.

“Fuck. Okay, well call him then. He’ll explain.”

Sam shrugs, takes out his phone. I cross my arms and glare at Matias, but my righteous indignation is short-lived.

A second later, Savage’s phone starts ringing in my pocket.

“Oh, right,” I mutter.

Now Sam and Matty are staring at me like they’re about to handcuff me to the toilet.

“I didn’t steal it! He left it in his jacket,” I say, lifting my hands in a hasty truce.

“Try Vito,” Matty tells Sam.

Sam’s frown becomes a scowl, but he calls Vito. As soon as the call connects, he walks away.

“He really didn’t tell you about my sisters?”

Matty shrugs. “We only need to know the important stuff.”

My body goes cold.

Only theimportantstuff?

I lick my lips, strain to hear Sam’s side of the conversation. But it’s short, and too soon Sam is back with us.

“He said Savage is busy.”

“I know he’s fucking busy,” I say, pushing the words through my teeth, “But there’s a motherfucking development, okay?”

“That dirty mouth isn’t doing you any favors,” Sam says.

I squeeze my lips together, take a deep, steeling breath.

It doesn’t help.

“Look. This is important, okay?” My brain scrambles. I take Savage’s phone out of my pocket. “Here. Send this message to Vito. Tell him to show Caesar.”

Matty looks wary, but Sam snatches the phone from my hand with ill grace. “Pin?”

I let out a rough sigh. “How the fuck should I know?”

Sam looks up at me with dead eyes. “Language.”

“God, fine. I don’t know hisdamnpin.” I wave my hand at the phone. “Take a picture if you have to. I’m telling you, when Savage sees that, he’ll drop everything.”
