“Drake?”
“Yeah. Can you come help me? It’s Bianca. There’s been. . . an accident.”
“Where are you?”
I rattled off Enzo’s address. “Bring your equipment. Tell no one.”
I hung up and went to Bianca’s side.
“What do you think?” I murmured, sitting on the edge of the bed and taking her cool hand in mine. I hated that I’d sat with worry in my guts like this before with her. She didn’t deserve any of this shit and neither did her babies.
“I think we gave her too much.”
I raked my hand down my face. “Ethan, man—”
“She’ll be OK. There’s nothing toxic in it. The babies will be fine too.” The way concern was written across his face made me question that.
“She fucking better be.”
“She will.” He visibly swallowed. “We all were. So were those mice I darted.”
“This plan was fucking stupid.” I looked down at her as she whimpered again. I knew the shit burned and hurt like a motherfucker. It felt like my insides were on fire when I’d been shot with it. It was something Ethan had cooked up to take down an enemy so they could interrogate them later. Hell of an idea, but a terrible fucking way to pass the fuck out.
“You should try to reach Dom,” Ethan continued. “We need to make sure everyone got out OK.”
I nodded tightly. He was right. We did. The only reason I didn’t want to call was because I feared no one would answer. Bianca would wake up with just me there. She’d hate me for the lies I’d told her. I saw the devastation on her face when she thought I’d betrayed her. She’d just given up.
It broke my fucking heart.
But it was part of the plan we’d cooked up.
Really “kill” her this time to keep her out of Matteo’s sights. And maybe Dom had died in that fire. And if he didn’t, we were going to make it look like he did, along with the rest of the kings.
Freedom was close. It was up to Dom if he was going to take it or continue to fight. Many secrets were set to be revealed. I wasn’t sure how anyone was going to be able to handle them.
But Bianca. . . my job was to bring her to Matteo. I’d failed on that account. I’d be on the run, too, and most likely alone since I was sure the kings weren’t going to welcome me in with open arms. And I very much doubted Fallon would leave Bianca. He wanted to kill all the pricks just as much as I did.
So, we had a lot of tough choices ahead of us.
At any rate, I’d knocked Bianca out so Tate wouldn’t have been able to drag her to the car. I felt confident it was believable, so Dom could decide what he wanted to do once we told him the plan.
If he was alive.
Fuck, I wanted him to be. All of them needed to be alive. For Bianca. She’d break if something happened to them.
“I’m sorry, malen'koye solnyshko.” I reached out and brushed her hair away from her face before leaning in and pressing my lips to her cheek. “I was just trying to save you.”
I closed my eyes and exhaled before sitting up, pulling out my phone, and thumbing through my contacts. I stared down at Dominic’s name. He’d be furious. Probably even kill me.
But I was going to call him anyway. The guy didn’t need to suffer again.
Please be alive.
His phone rang several times, each ring making the fear well in my chest, before he answered, his voice thick and husky.
“Hello.”
“It’s Drake,” I said.
