She sighed and stared up at me.
Fuck, my queen was a beauty.
She parted her lips to speak, but her eyes widened instead as she stared past me.
Immediately, I turned to see what she was looking at and caught Vin and Fallon making their way towards us, probably after having told Celeste to fuck off again.
It wasn’t them that captured my attention though.
It was David D’Angelou taking a seat with a woman who had to be Bianca’s mother. I didn’t know why it hadn’t crossed my mind that they’d show up, but there they were.
“D’Angelou,” Vin said, stopping beside us.
“I see,” I murmured, turning back to Bianca. “We can leave if you want. We don’t even have to do this.”
“I-I’ll stay,” she said thickly, wincing.
“We’ll leave immediately after. Vin, you have everything ready, right?”
“Since last night. Everything is packed up. I have the court taking care of leftovers and taking it all to storage. We’re good to go whenever you say the word.”
I nodded. It definitely wouldn’t be long before I said the words, that much I was sure of.
We threwour hats into the air, now graduates of Bolten Academy.
I’d given my speech amid loud applause and hadn’t wasted any time stepping off the stage after having spotted Matteo with Klaus and Alessio in the crowd. I hadn’t really thought he’d show up, but there he was, antagonizing me.
He hadn’t applauded my speech. He’d simply sat still as a statue in his all-black, his eyes fixed on me, not an ounce of emotion on his face.
“Come,” I said to Bianca, taking her hand in mine. She slid her palm along mine, and I made to drag her through the crowd, Vin and Fallon catching up to us quickly. We hadn’t been able to sit together because of our names, so I’d sat alone while Bianca, Fallon, and Vin were together since she’d gone back to Walker, and that was near their V names.
“Bianca! Honey!” A woman shouted. “Bianca!”
Fuck.
Two men came out of nowhere and stepped directly into our path, halting our journey. If this weren’t such a public event, I’d have already killed their asses, but I didn’t want to draw attention to us, so I turned and faced the music.
“Dominic De Santis,” David greeted me, Bianca’s mother next to him. Bianca gripped my arm tightly, her small body tense.
“D’Angelou,” I answered in a monotone. “Matteo is here. I’m sure you’re aware.”
“Of course. It’s why I’ve brought some of my men with me. He won’t dare cause a scene. Too many witnesses.” Davidsmirked at me. It only made me want to plant my fist in his face more.
“So. My daughter.” David turned his attention to Bianca. “And her band of misfits.”
“I’m not your daughter,” Bianca snarled at him. “Don’t fucking call me that.”
“Bianca, manners,” her mother reprimanded, looking around to make sure no one was listening.
“I’ll have manners for him when he fucking dies,” Bianca said.
Oh, my savage little queen.
I nodded to Vincent, who took hold of Bianca and moved her behind me.
“Well, that’s inappropriate,” David said, a forced smile on his face. “She’s ungrateful, Dominic. I’m sure you’re aware. Give them the world, and they’ll still spit in your face.”
“She’s not ungrateful. She’s just sick of your shit, and quite frankly, you aren’t winning award points with me right now either,” I answered, staring him down. “Just because you have your men here doesn’t mean shit to me if we need to get down to it.”
