“Who was the second person who broke into Delilah’s house?”
“Shane. He stayed out of sight in case Delilah recognized him, managed to escape Donovan, and ratted him out to the police before the plans were in place to handle Delilah and clean out the accounts.”
“What about Zach and Evan?” Delilah frowned. “Were they part of this plan?” Delilah hoped she hadn’t been wrong about her own brother.
“Shane broached the idea of knocking off anyone else who might be named in Mrs. Holloway’s will, but treated it as a joke. Zach shoved Shane against a wall and told him not to even joke about it, that it wasn’t funny. Evan agreed with Zach and told Shane not to be stupid. Shane, Lisa, and Donovan decided to cut Zach and Evan out of the plan. By the time Zach and Evan would have realized Shane had been serious, and he, Lisa, and Donovan were to blame for the empty accounts, they would have already gotten themselves new identities and left the country after transferring every penny to their offshore accounts. They were going to leave good old Sebastian to keep himself out of prison. He was never part of the money scheme, just a willing participant in hunting you. You’re a lucky woman, Delilah.”
She shook her head. “Not lucky. Blessed. I appreciate what you did to obtain justice for my mother and stepfather.”
“Just doing my job.” He shook their hands. “Here’s hoping the rest of your lives are less eventful. I’ll be in touch soon.”
Matt and Delilah walked to the coffee shop where the Ramseys waited for them. Cade motioned to the to-go cups on the table.
“Coffee for you and tea for Delilah.”
“Ready to go?
“More than ready.”
Sasha stood with her own cup in hand. “We have a wedding to plan. Let’s go home.”
Five hours later, Matt parked in his driveway and helped Cade unload his and Sasha’s gear. “Take OTC pain meds and sleep. I’ll check on you tomorrow.”
Cade smiled. “You’re busy tomorrow, buddy. I’ll sleep a few hours, then tell you where we’re having your bachelor party.”
Bachelor party? Delilah’s mouth dropped. He was kidding, right? She’d never known Bravo to drink anything harder than soft drinks. They didn’t want to be less than battle ready if Fortress contacted them.
Matt scowled. “When did you have time to plan a bachelor party?”
“I talked to the rest of Bravo each time we stopped to stretch our legs on the way home and Trent coordinated with Josh Cahill and the rest of Durango. You were too busy stealing kisses from Delilah to notice the phone calls.”
“What kind of bachelor party?” Matt’s eyes narrowed, suspicion growing.
“Our kind. Grilling out in my backyard with plenty of food and sweet tea. Nate will handle the food prep. Grace is planning a dinner party for Delilah, Sasha, and the wives of Durango at Trent’s place.”
Sasha grinned at Delilah. “This will be fun. Darcy is in charge of our food.”
Delilah’s stomach growled as if on cue. “Oh, man. I can’t wait.”
“You have to. We have a mission this afternoon.”
Butterflies took flight in her stomach. Delilah needed to find a wedding dress in the next few hours and confirm reception details with Zoe and Darcy. The latter had volunteered to create platters of pinwheels and wraps for the reception while Zoe planned to serve a variety of cookies and cupcakes instead of a traditional wedding cake.
She glanced at Matt whose intense gaze was locked on her. “Nothing will stop me from marrying you tomorrow even if I can’t find a wedding dress, Matt Rainer. I’ll find something that works.”
He cupped her cheek. “Meet me at the county clerk’s office at four o’clock. We both need to be there to apply for a marriage license.”
“Come on.” Sasha nudged Delilah toward Cade’s vehicle. “I’ll drive Cade home to rest for a few hours, then you and I will go shopping.”
The next three hours passed in a blur. By the time Sasha dropped her off in front of the court house to meet Matt, Delilah had purchased a wedding dress and finalized details with Darcy, Zoe, and the florist. She’d also stopped by Wicks to check in with Piper and tell her assistant the plans for the next day.
Matt dropped a quick kiss on her lips when she walked to him. “Did you find anything?”
Delilah nodded. “The dress is perfect. I hope you like it.”
“As long as you’re wearing it, I will. After we get the license, we’re going to PSI to pick up a package from Zane.”
Thirty minutes later, they left the clerk’s office with the marriage license in hand and drove to PSI. By the time Delilah had fastened each piece of GPS jewelry in place, it was time for the parties planned by their friends.
