She stared at their hands. His dark skin was such a contrast between her bloody hands.
"There isn't any blood on your hands," he said. "You're okay."
Hedda shook her head but Oliver kept wiping her hands. Tears continued to fill her eyes as she slowly started to see the blood disappear from her hands.
"You're safe here," Leo said. "You can cry."
Hedda shook her head and screwed her eyes shut. She couldn't cry, no matter how much she wanted to. It wasn't okay. She bit her lip to stop herself from crying.
She felt the exhaustion seep into her body as the adrenaline was leaving. Nightmares always took all of her energy.
"Hedda," Oliver said. "You're safe."
She felt someone touch her lips and she jerked back and opened her eyes. Leo was pulling her lip from in between her teeth.
"It's a good stress release," Leo said. "Don't bottle up all of those emotions."
"No!" she yelled as she tried to get past Oliver. She didn't need this. Everything was working before and she didn't need to change anything.
His arms wrapped around her and she struggled to get out. She needed to get out.
"Let me go!" she yelled.
She continued to try and get out of his arms. He walked out of the bathroom and into her room. She tried to get her foot stuck on a ledge from the door, but Leo grabbed her foot and held it away.
"Stop!" she yelled. "Let me fucking go!"
Hedda was getting angry now. This was the second time Leo had mentioned she could cry, almost like he wanted her to be weak. Did he want to make fun of her if she did cry? Tell her she was a cry baby and they didn't want her?
"I'll let you go when you calm down," Oliver said as he sat down on the ground, her in his lap.
She continued to try and get out, hitting and scratching his arms. But his grip around her didn't budge. What was he made out of?
"No!" she screamed. "Just let me go, you piece of shit!"
How dare he hold her against her will. She didn't do anything for him to hold her hostage like that.
"Calm down and I'll let you go," he said again. "I don't want you hurting yourself."
"I won't!"
"I'm not taking any chances. Calm down and I'll let go. Don't calm down and I won't. I can do this all day."
Hedda continued to struggle in his arms, trying to get out and only exhausting herself. She could feel herself getting slower and before she knew it, she laid still in his body. Once he let go, she was going to leave his embrace and get as far away as possible.
"Are you good?" Leo asked. "Are you going to be calm now?"
She glared at him and tried to push Oliver's arms once more, but they didn't budge. Really. What was Oliver made out of?
All she wanted to do was get out of his embrace and away from them. She didn't need his arms around her. She wasn't going to hurt herself. But he had said they didn't trust her which made her even more angry. She had trashed the room, but she hadn't harmed herself.
"Let me go," she said through her clenched jaw.
"Calm down and I will."
Hedda took a deep breath and let her body relax but she was anything but that. Oliver held her for a couple more minutes, probably to make sure she was actually relaxed and calmed down.
"Good girl," Oliver whispered, as he unwrapped his arms from her.
