She blinked several times but made no attempt to get out of his lap. Hedda was exhausted after the nightmare and trying to get out of his embrace. She could feel the heat coming from Oliver which made her want to snuggle up and fall asleep.
It wouldn't hurt her to sit here for a couple minutes, as she got her breath back, right?
CHAPTER FOURTEEN
HEDDA
Hedda blinked several times and saw Leo sitting right in front of her. She was so exhausted and didn't want to move right now. Would Oliver get mad that she wasn't moving?
Her body was aching and it felt like she had gotten hit by a train and survived. She didn't know how long she had been asleep for, but it made her feel ten times worse than she did before.
Why wasn't she strong enough to stay awake? Why did she have to fall asleep?
Hedda knew that each time she fell asleep it was going to be the same. Horrible nightmares that plagued her dreams. They all started off nice with Storm and her hanging out but they all ended with her killing Richard. The nightmares were never the same either.
It was like her mind was playing a twisted game with her and she couldn't get away from it. Why couldn't she get away from it?
She wished she would have grabbed the few caffeine pills she had taken from Michael before Oliver and Leo took her. They could have helped her in this situation. Maybe she could look around their house and see if they had anything for her to take. Maybe she could sneak some so she didn't sleep.
Her reliance on these pills were unhealthy, but she didn't care right now. The only thing she needed to focus on was never sleeping again. She didn't want to have to see Richard in her dreams again. She didn't want to have to relive killing him over and over again.
"Heddy?" Leo softly asked.
She made eye contact with him and he gave her a smile. Hedda absolutely loved it when both of them smiled. They were rough on the outside but total teddy bears on the inside. It was something she loved about them.
Hedda wasn't surprised that she loved them. They had spent several months talking to each other and she had found herself falling in love with them over that period of time.
"Sweets?" Leo said.
How was she going to survive this? She loved them but she didn't deserve them. They didn't deserve a murderer. She needed to leave soon or else this was going to destroy her.
"Do you need a drink of water?" Leo asked.
Before she could say anything, he got up from the floor and walked over towards the mini fridge. She could barely see the contents inside of it as he opened it, but she saw the line of water bottles and apple juices.
Apple juice sounded so good right now.
"I want you to take a couple sips of water and then youcan have apple juice," Leo said as he sat back down in front of her.
Hedda wanted to pout because it wasn't fair. She should just be able to have apple juice and forgo the water. It didn't taste like anything.
She watched him as he opened the bottle of water and held it up to her lips. She lifted her hands, trying to grab onto the water bottle but he pulled it away from her. Did he want her to drink the water or not? Why did he pull it away from her?
"Let Papa do it," he said.
Hedda could vaguely remember calling him Papa in her head as she was pulled from her nightmare. It felt so right and she wanted to call him that again, but she couldn't get too attached. She needed to remember that he was Leo and not Papa.
She sighed and placed her arms back in her lap. Oliver was so comfortable to sit on. She only hoped that this wouldn't make her get more attached, but she also hoped that he was comfortable. She didn't want him to be uncomfortable and not say anything.
Leo held up the water bottle to her lips and she took several sips of it before pulling her head away. She wanted the apple juice now and she hoped he got the message.
"Alright," Leo said and chuckled. "You took your couple of sips. Now time for apple juice."
A small smile appeared on her face as she relaxed into Oliver's body more. Her body so badly wanted to fall back asleep, but Hedda wasn't going to allow that. She would try and keep her mind active so she could stay awake.
"Here you go," Leo said as he held the juice box straw up to her mouth.
She didn't fight him on holding the apple juice box this time. She was trying to conserve her energy as much as she could so when they left, she could stay awake.
