“I do,” he said without hesitation.

“Good cause you just have to trust me on this one.”

“Kendra, what–”

“Please, just trust me.”

He took a deep breath, but then nodded. “I’ll have your back.”

“For now we should just keep an eye on them.”

Avery’s gaze turned vacant as he linked with Mike. Kendra had chosen Mike to be her lead warrior after Benjamin had turned down her proposal. She’d made sure to give every warrior the chance to take the title, but Mike had earned it. She hadn’t made the decision entirely on her own–she’d consulted her father and Avery, so no one could accuse her of being biased.

That evening, Kendra started preparing for the dinner by baking her famous chocolate cake and trying to figure out how to deal with Alpha Vallerian. She decided that she couldn’t be the one to make an official first move and as she prepared her noodle salad, she remembered Lina’s cravings during pregnancy. Slowly but surely, a plan formed, and she fell asleep late at night with a bundle of nerves in her stomach.

The next morning she linked Benjamin, needing everything he’d gathered during the past months. ‘I’m ready.’

‘Will I see whatever it is firsthand?’

‘If you wish.’

Benjamin appeared in her office thirty minutes later. He’d stored the envelopes and maps in a leather brief that he handed over with a sly grin. “You look sick.”

After seeing Ryker the day before, she’d felt horrible. She’d barely been able to keep her fierce but happy façade. She didn’t say anything in return, silently looking through everything he’d gathered.

“I made copies.”

She nodded just as Avery came through the doors. He stopped in his tracks, his eyes flickering between her and Benjamin. “I can come back later.”

“No.” Her voice was shaky and raspy. “Sit.”

Avery did as he was told, his face turning from curious to worried. “What happened?”

She handed him the papers. While he read them, she tried to compose herself again, but she couldn’t help but feel sick to her stomach.

“What are you gonna do with this?”

“Confront him.”

“Now?”

“Whenever he comes to me to talk about the men we’ve found on our territory.” They both looked at her as if she was crazy and honestly, that’s exactly how she felt. “I can’t just go to him and say ‘Hi idiot, I found these,’ can I?”

“But they are a mile off our territory.”

“Not for long.” Kendra stood and moved to leave her office. “Stay. I’ll be back and when I return, I want Mike here too.”

Avery bowed his head. “Yes, Luna.”

The fresh air helped her nausea as she walked towards the Blood Wolves. Just like the night before, one of their warriors, Kendra recognized him as Andrew, was standing guard before the house that Alpha Vallerian and Luna Sophia were staying in. With a smile she stepped closer, his eyes resting on her.

“I came to speak to Luna Sophia.”

“Regarding?”

“If I told you I would’ve asked to speak to you, Andrew.”

His lips slightly twitched. “Of course, Luna Kendra, but I don’t believe you can talk to her alone.”
