Page 62 of Claiming Her Alpha

“No need, just a quick question.”

He nodded, his gaze drifting off as he linked with someone. A moment later he nudged towards the door.

“Thank you,” she beamed as she walked past him and through the front door.

Luna Sophia sat on the couch in the living room, with Alpha Vallerian next to her and Ryker and Gabriel in the back.

“I came to see how everyone settled in. I wanted to ask about dinner tonight.”

Luna Sophia seemed confused while Alpha Vallerian seemed to be in a bad mood–as always.

“I was starting my dinner preparations and with some of our pack having had their first child recently, I wanted to make sure I didn’t cook anything that would make you feel sick.”

She remained subtle, not feeling the need to blurt out that she knew about the pregnancy. The tension in the room started to vibrate and Kendra had a feeling she could’ve cut it with a spoon. Luna Sophia’s eyes flickered towards her mate.

After a moment in which Kendra smiled, remaining as relaxed as she could, Luna Sophia spoke for the first time. “I… I’m not sure…”

“Oh, don’t worry–some don’t experience any sickness. Or so I’ve learned from Jenevea. Please, if something does come to mind, let me know.”

Kendra turned before anyone else could say another word. It took all her strength not to look at Ryker again. Her heart was already racing as if it was ready to explode. The few quick glances she’d stolen from him had burned in her soul, only reminding her of what she couldn’t have.

Outside, Andrew was watching her closely and as she walked past him, he held his hand out to her. As she looked down, she saw a familiar gold necklace. He placed it in her hands and then nudged her to leave. Walking away, her eyes filled with silent tears as she ran her finger over Ryker’s mother’s necklace.

She wanted to turn back and thank Andrew, but she knew it was too risky. He’d probably risked a lot to give it to her in the first place. She wasn’t even entirely sure Ryker knew about it. That would go against his alpha, and he didn’t seem like the type to risk something like that. It could be even seen as treason, and she hoped Ryker truly wasn’t part of that.

In her office, she found Avery pacing along the window. Mike stood by linking with someone and Benjamin leisurely rested against her bookcase. She sat in her chair behind her desk, eyes glued to the golden chain in her hands.

“Kendra?” Avery asked worriedly as he came closer.

“Not now,” she croaked, fighting tears.

He stopped in his tracks and watched as she placed the necklace in a drawer to her side.

“The wolves are passing our border,” Mike announced.

“Good. Capture them.”

Mike gave her commands to his warriors before he looked back at her, just as worried as Avery. “How did you make them come here?”

“I told Alpha Vallerian that I knew Luna Sophia is pregnant.”

“Fuck Kendra! Why would you do that? You went there all alone!”

“As we are in my office talking about official business, I am your luna and you will address and speak to me as such,” Kendra barked back at Mike.

He quickly bowed his head. “Yes, Luna.”

“Whatever happens next you will keep a straight face. You will not question me, nor my actions. Do you understand?”

“Yes, Luna,” both Avery and Mike replied.

Her eyes fell on Benjamin, who also nodded.

Clenching her jaw, she reached for the necklace again, unable to leave it alone. She ran the golden string through her fingers as if it would bring her luck.

“They have them, Luna.”

She looked up at Mike. “How many?”
