Page 48 of Claiming Her Alpha

Like every evening, she curled up in bed, one pillow between her thighs and another hugged to her chest. Closing her eyes, she once again found herself in Ryker’s arms. Her dreams made up conversations she hoped and prayed they would have one day. His lips spread kisses over her shoulders and his teeth sank into her neck as he finally marked her.

Before she could embark deeper into her dreams, a loud bang awoke her. Confused, she looked around her room. Light from the hallway blinded her, the moon still high up in the sky.

“You bitch!” Kent slurred as he stomped closer, the stench of alcohol filling her room. “You took everything from me.”

She was up on her feet in an instant, adrenaline pumping through her veins and sleep long forgotten.

Kent stormed towards her, his fist headed straight for her nose. Though he was taller, her instincts were faster–and not impaired by alcohol. She stepped aside and not knowing how else to bring him to his knees quickly, she punched him in the crotch.

With a loud howl, he fell to his knees, but not without slashing out at her with his claws. He caught her thigh and ripped her flesh, but with the adrenaline rushing through her, she didn’t feel it much. Out of reflex, she reeled back with all the strength of her wolf and let her fist connect with his nose, feeling the sickening crack under her knuckles. Blood gushed through his fingers as another howl filled the air.

“I will fucking kill you!” Kent promised.

“No, you won’t!” Her father’s voice resonated through the room.

Kendra jumped back as her dad thundered into the space.

“I’m your son!” Kent slurred, blood still dripping from his nose.

“Which is the only reason why you’re still alive after you just threatened my heir,” her father growled and picked Kent up by his throat. “Any other would’ve lost their life.”

Kendra had never seen her father in such rage. Terrified, she watched as he dragged Kent out of her room and threw him down the stairs. Not a moment later, Avery and Leon barged through the door. Leon’s eyes widened in terror as he looked down on his drunk, blood-covered best friend. It seemed as if he finally saw Kent for who he was.

Avery placed his boot on Kent’s chest as he tried to get up to fight even more. “What shall we do with him, Alpha?”

“He has threatened to kill my heir. Chain him up and make an example of him for everyone who wishes to do the same.”

“Yes, Alpha.”

Avery and Leon then grabbed Kent and dragged him out of the house. Kendra’s heart was still pounding in her chest as she looked at her father, suddenly seeing his animalistic and dangerous side. His wolf was a pure, raging alpha as he watched his son being dragged out of his house.

She didn’t say a word nor move a muscle as her father’s aura made goosebumps appear all over her skin. She wasn’t sure for how long, but it felt like eternity before he turned to her. She couldn’t hold his gaze, shame pouring out of her heart. He’d just thrown his son out because of her. She was the reason this family was now split.

“Kendra, look at me,” he demanded, though his voice was softer now.

She looked up, not one to disobey her alpha’s command.

“Richard is on his way to look at your wounds. Did Kent hurt you anywhere else?”

“No.”

He nodded and walked down the stairs, following the three men.

Now that the adrenaline flushed out of her system, pain took over and radiated from her thigh. A moment after her father had left the house, her mom came out of the master bedroom and gasped at the sight.

“Let’s get that taken care of, sweetheart.”

“Richard is on his way.”

“C’mon. let’s get you downstairs.”

Kendra held tightly to the railing as she limped downstairs and sat on the last step, unable to walk any farther. She hadn’t even noticed how deep he’d cut her, but looking at it, it seemed as if he’d gotten to her muscles.

Just as she tried to get a better look, Richard came in, his black leather bag in hand.

“We should lay you down. You’re already pale from the blood loss.”

Without hesitation, Richard dropped his bag and picked her up bridal style. He laid her down on the couch and kneeled before her. She did feel slightly dizzy as he inspected her leg and the claw marks.
