“Is this the only injury?”
“Yes.”
“I will numb it and then stitch it back together.”
He pulled out a syringe and needle. She watched him carefully as he administered the anaesthetic around the wound.
“I would prefer if you stayed off this leg for three days, but twenty-four hours at least.”
“But–”
“Just because you’ll heal fast doesn’t mean it will heal properly. Remember what I taught you? Just because a bone heals quickly doesn’t mean it’s in the proper position. If things don’t heal in the right position, they will give you trouble later on.”
She let out a frustrated groan. “Fine.”
Her mom tried to calm her. “Richard just wants the best for you.”
“Has anyone else been hurt, Luna Maya?”
“No.”
Kendra closed her eyes and tried to process what had just happened. She wasn’t sure what her father would do to Kent, but she still felt guilty. He’d lived all his life believing he would be alpha one day and she just ripped the ground from beneath his feet. She knew it was the right decision for the pack but for him, his world had just come crashing down around him. She didn’t particularly feel bad for him–he’d brought this on himself–but she did feel a little guilty.
Her father’s mind pressed against hers, so she opened up to him. ‘Has Richard taken care of you?’
‘Yes. He said I should stay off the leg for at least a day.’
She could feel that he agreed with Richard. ‘Mother will take care of you.’
‘She is already hovering.’
‘Rest.’
It was an order, as if he knew that she didn’t want to follow Richard’s advice. He didn’t wait for a response either and quickly pulled his mind away from hers.
“Kendra, I would like to give you some IV fluids.”
She nodded, her mind still a little blurry. With her eyes still closed, Kendra felt when Richard disinfected the back of her hand and pricked her with a needle. A cold feeling spread through her arm as the fluid dripped into her system.
“I can hold that, Richard,” her mom offered.
Kendra listened to them both as they talked about her wounds and what her mom should watch out for. It seemed as if their conversation was far away and soon, Kendra drifted into a deep sleep.
Chapter Fourteen
“How does it feel to never be alpha?” Tailor snarled, bracing himself for another punch.
Ryker ignored him—as usual—and let Tailor deliberately land his fist in his gut. Ryker appeared to stumble, luring Tailor closer.
“You think she’s already looking for a better alpha? Someone who can put some puppies in her stomach?”
Tailor’s next punch connected with Ryker’s lip, sending blood pouring down his chin. Ryker stumbled once more and let Tailor believe he was about to give up.
“That bitch has probably already forgotten about you. You think it runs in the family to fuck everything that moves?”
The words barely had time to leave Tailor’s mouth before Ryker’s fist met his nose. The move shocked Tailor so much that he froze. Ryker jumped, catching the man in a chokehold. Tailor’s nails turned into claws as he attempted to claw his way out of Ryker’s grip. Ryker couldn’t help but chuckle at the failed attempt. No physical pain could ever hold up to the ache in his heart. Nothing anyone could ever do to him would hurt as much as losing his one and only; his moon and luna.
Tailor grew limp, collapsing to the ground as the oxygen was drained from his body. He let him suffer just a little longer before gently lowering him down and looking at his other men.
